I thought it showed promise...sure it follows the pommy style but
that was very successful so why not. The boys playing in the sand in the "softies" quickly showed how easy it is to damage the front end bodywork & tear off "protective" bits, but they were
being a bit on the overvigorous side. While the roadtest of the upmarket Porsche was interesting I found the drooling over such vehicles became a bit boring on the pommy version & I could live without such a test every week of a car no one can afford. The
snow bit sure showed how a 4WD wont necessarily get you through ice & snow, & why chains are important. Ruining a good
moke to get pics we have all seen a hundred times seemed a bit
of overkill & a waste of a nice moke. The direct contest between the Red & Blue next week should be worth a look too.
The most interesting question raised, to me, was why would you
outlay $50k on a V6 rav when you could be in a basic Prado for
that bread, & have a real 4wd. Just a thought....oldbaz.

Why bother having an Australian one when it's exactly the same as the English version?

I hate the fact it's an indentical rip off in everyway

Did you check out the audience faces, they looked as bored as attendees at a Kevin Rudd speech.
Hopefully they can improve on the show, but the viewing audience was similar figures to the pommy show, so SBS can't be too disheartened.
I guess I'll adopt a wait and see attitude for a couple of weeks.
None of the divers in the soft roaders looked like they had much experience, and the tyres weren't overly deflated.
Cheers

Early days yet ,but really dont think that it will establish the same following as the original pommy version ,, seemed very wooden and overly scripted ,, as for the tests on the beach it would seem they have never heard of the concept of adjusting tire pressure to suit and in the snow using chains or M+S profile / treaded tires.

Hello,
Watched the Aussie Topgear last night. Thought it absolutely sucked actually.
Tried to replace the pommie blokes with similar aussie guys which basically was disasterous according to myself and my mates who watched it.
The blond guy is up himself(what a wanker), the skinny little Don Johnson 5.00 stuble look guy was trying to be Hammond from the pommie show and in the end was trying so hard he bleep me off totally.
The dude with the mow was easily the best presenter as he seemed to be down to earth.
But the Mini Moke and shark bit.....Please give me a break what a load of crap.
Hope it improves out of sight sooner than later.
Regards Alan.

Hi all,
For those interested here is the url for the Aussie Top Gear site. I personally hope it improves and develops its own personality. They appear to be copying the UK show too much and I don't think it is working, (my opinion only). Hammond, Clarkson and May have made the UK show with their very different personalities and traits and really feed well off each other.

If I could see any point in any of the stories they superficially covered, I'd wish them well - as for the Moke and the sharks.... what the hell that was all about has me completely stumped. I suggest the researchers hurry up and find some decent subject matter for the program.

Hi,

Beside the general consensus of the presenters of Oz Top Gear and the similarities to the UK version, using the Moke to do some pointless shark fishing got up the nose of the Moke community.

We knew they had dunked a Moke about 6 weeks earlier, and even had pictures of it loading on the boat, so we all tuned in to see it with high expectations and our forum pretty much reacted the same as here, just worse.

Probably not of too much concern to the 4wd fraternity, but they didn't just dunk some old rust bucket Moke, they drop a nicely restored, with some very expensive and hard to get original bits on it and although they drained the engine and removed the electrics(just the Coil and alternator we think) and the Moke will be a junked bit of rust in 12 months time due to the salt.

So besides being a poor rip-off and boring as door knobs they have little respect for the automobile in their drive to get any sort of laugh or entertainment value.

Agreed. Forget which show, 1st or 2nd, but they had a very expensive Italian sports car in the studio, fired it up and almost immediately floored it until the rev limiter cut it. Then they go on about loving the cars - you just don't treat an engine like that if you are respectful of it - and it's future owners when you've borrowed it!!
