I was looking at the same interior light kit from Jaycar - but the 31mm kit was KC-5354 not 5334. Is that the same one?

Also on the web page, it says "Use broken globes for fittings". I take it that you just get an old festoon globe that has deceased, break the glass and insert the 2 LED kit - is that all you have to do? If it is then I am going to get two sets. One for the very back light and one for the middle light in the GU Patrol. I already have quite powerfull map reading lights in the front - built into the overhead radio console, but they do not turn on automatically when the doors are opened so I have to rely on very dim middle and back lighting.

The Jaycar LED kits look very good - I'll be geting a few to try soon.

LED's and Festoon light globe end must be supplied by you, and are not part of the kit.

The JayCar flouro light is a great unit - very bright indeed, and should theoretically have a current drain when on in the vicinity of 100 milliamps, so battery power shouldn't be too much of an issue.

To get the light working with your door light switches requires a little bit of a hack...we disconnected the pitiful courtesy lamp that comes in the flouro light as an extra - and utilised the SPDT switch to switch a common earth to either the door light earth - or a permanenet earth, giving the light three states: OFF, ALWAYS ON, or ON WITH CABIN COURTESY LIGHTS.

It works very well - after the required modification is done to the flouro light unit - just tap into the existing cabin light loom for the required +12V, -12V, and switched -12V lines.

Cheers,

Luke.

Luke,

Do you say that you have to supply your own LED's as well? I thought that they came with the kit. If not then do Jaycar sell them?

Nope the LEDS are in kit.

You need to supply the ends of the Festoon globes.

It says in the Jaycar catalogue that "LED's and fittings(festoon ends) not supplied"

Any which way, Jaycar will have the LED's, and they are nice 'n' cheap.

Bought a kit yesterday - haven't made it yet - will try to get 10 mins tonight :-)

...In kit the only thing supplied is a PCB, and instruction sheet. You have to buy 2 LED's (for the 31mm kit - you can select your own depending on brightness/colour desired. I bought 7000Cmd LED's in white - they are the brightest that Jaycar stock), a resistor (value depends on the LED's you select), and a IN4004 diode.

Total cost (assuming you can get the festoon light end caps for free- I'm gonna just break the one in the car and use that) is $13.63 from Jaycar for one lamp replacement including all components. This gives you enough resistors and diodes for a few kits though, as they are not available seaparately and are sold in small packs.

Will post more info and results when I've built it :-)

Luke,

I am keen to get a kit myself. I am hoping that it will light up the whole of the back area of the GU with just the very back light (cargo area) being converted.

Hi Guys.

Would someone out there please sum up the end result for a poor old Troopie owner. My interior dome light is the 30 mil length, and I think the rear courteous light is the same. From what I can guesstimate I can only fit a 2 LED type into the existing light fittings. (Jaycar)

Are they bright enough, better that the existing 5 watt dim globe?

What other alternative do I have for a brighter light, is there something else out there that is in existence other that the Luxeon in a earlier post?

A summary if someone can see their way to do so please.

Regards

I'll be testing the 31mm LED festoon replacement kit sometime this week.

I'm sure it will be an improvement over the standard cabin light - only thing is how much of an improvement really :-)

...will post results when I've built one...

Cheers,

Luke.

Check this site out.

Not sure if 75 is same as 80 series (can't imagine why it wouldn't be) but I fitted mine last night and it's made the cabin a tad short of daylight.
Very impressed

Hi Allyn.

I have been to Georges site before and I have to say I am VERY impressed and dearly love to get one, but when Ii mentioned it to the wife, she almost went ballistic over the price. I tried to explain to her that the parts were expensive but the answer I got was "use a torch".

The next time I see an series 80 I will have a look at the interior light.

Incidentally your site listed came up with "Yahoo unable to find site"

Isn't it a bugger when you have to count the pennies?

After the previous Posts I purchased a couple of the kits from Jaycar Perth
$43.70 later....for 2x31mm amd 1x41mm Kits the "KIT" consisted of the Instructions on how to make the led and the PCB Board but I then had to purchase the Diodes and Resistors and LED's Seperately, it also depends on what type of LED's you put in i used 5mm 6000mCd High Brightness LED
Completed a 31mm LED for the rear of my Paj and I think its Brighter! will probably go with the 11watt 12vDC PL Cabin Lamp. Part # ST-3006 $29.95. less hassle I think......
