Coming back from Tibooburra at the start of September on the Silver City Hwy I was amazed to see an R8 Audi mid engined super car stopped by the side of the road .

Last week I heard it also went to Birdsville and drove to the top of Big Red in the Simpson .

That's a pretty adventurous drive .

Willie.
The R8 is a front engine 4x4, so what is surprising about big red, plenty of Subaru's get up there. Eric

Was good fun , after playing with it around town my brother in law took it to Big Red - actually jumping over the western lip, (photo on pub wall) , and also took it the furthest north any car has been - beyond the carpark at tip of cape york.

I don't know if this photo has already appeared on this site or not. I found it on another one a couple of years ago. It looks like you can find anything on Big Red these days.

Willie, if I can take a Karavan, an Audi shoudl be easy. I would have thought the low profile tyres on stoney roads could be a challenge though to make you wince.

G'day all, I saw the Audi in Birdsville race weekend, I guessed they trucked it in. Ten years ago I drove from Brisbane to Birdsville to Maree on to Adelaide, Broken Hill, Louth, Brisbane in a $1200, '76 Falcon wagon, standard height, no mods - no trouble, just a couple of punctures - all in 6 days! If you know what you are doing you can go in anything. regards, dingo
