I'm considering converting my US spec fj62 to manual and have a few questions.

I currently have a h42 four speed transmission sitting in my garage (it was free) and was thinking of swapping that in in place of my a440f auto.

However, my diffs are geared 4.11 and with the h42, 4.11, and 235/85/16's tires I would not have enough top end speed. RPMS would be too high to run a consistent 70-75 MPH.

If I replaced the diffs with 3.73 gears off of an FJ60, that would correct the highway speed issue, but I'm concerned that it would take away too much on the low end. On Ih8mud.com, many people comment that 3.7's, 33" tires, and the h42 4 speed is not a good combination to run. They say they have trouble climbing inclines, hill starts, and offroading due to lack of low first gear.

Do any of you have experience with this?
Would h42, 3.73's, and 7.5r16's (235/85/16's or 32" tires) be a good combination to run for offroading and highway use?

With all due respect, this is a site for "exploring australia", and you'd be better off sticking to the many LandCruiser sites.

But in Australia the first FJ60's came with 4.1 diffs, 4 speed box and 750R16 tyres, but fitting an aftermarket overdrive (made by Fairey) was popular.

Here In Australia, there is a company called marks adaptors that offer alternive gear ratios in the transfer case they may be applicable too your vehicle.
You can either make the "high" range higher (affectivly an overdrive), or make the low range lower, If running big tyres which will restore low range capabilitys.

Here is a link for you to explore
