The dates I heard was that it is to be closed from November to March annually.
Basically it is way too hot during midsummer for sensible travel and SA parks are covering themselves by "closing" the desert during this period.
Having been out there during the period March to October at various times over the years most sane people travel in the May to August period. March and October can still see ambient temps in the high 40's and early 50's day after day.

Please, could you tell me where this is published?
I couldn't find it on any official websites.

This is from the DEH Website:

"The most enjoyable times to visit the Simpson Desert are autumn, winter and spring. Travel is not recommended throughout the summer, when temperatures can be in the high forties (Celsius). Seasonal conditions vary and can be hazardous for the unprepared traveller."

It would appear the proposed closures are not official yet.

Cheers
