Had a great time. Met some people in Ceduna who had just completed Goog's the day before we started. Said they didn't think we'd get through with trailers. Long bumpy up hills with soft tops.
Well I got stuck once, backed down and got over all the rest. We had three trailers and two other vehicles. I was leading. Flew a bit fast over the top of a couple. Goog's Lake and Mount Finke camping lovely.
Mishaps: I staked a tyre on my trailer, Wiped off my left mirror when going out to Lois Rock Hole, other car (raised Kia Sorrento) broke shocker. After Goog's others had punctures and one tyre totally shredded.
Went to Cooper Pedy, Arkaringa, Painted Desert (lovely), Oodnadatta, Coward Springs (13 of us in the small spring pool) the mosquitoes are terrible, back to Haligen Bay Lake Eyre, down to Wilpena, home.
Flinders Ranges lovely, did a flight over the Pound.
My Dick Cepec PC-II tyres were great!
Friend with Cooper STT's had 2 punctures and shredded another.
Two had Cooper AT's, no problems. Another had Mickey Thompson muddies, picked up a nail.
We ran 14 - 16 PSI on Goog's, and 20 to 26 on Oodnadatta.
I also lost the back window of my canopy to stones flying up. I have really big mud flaps hanging off the back of my bumper, thought I'd be safe. Blow! Other car, Prado, had cardboard on his back window and found a large stone embedded in the cardboard, window ok.
Group I went with fantastic! Lot's of laughs.
Seems that 9 out of 10 cars in the outback are Toyotas. Mostly Hiluxes or Cruisers.
Got to clean my car and camper and get damage fixed now.

Quite interested in those tyre issues - what sort of speeds do you folks do on those gravelly, stony roads ?

We were doing 80 to a max sometimes of 130kph (not much at this speed)
Mostly 80 - 90

Welcome home. Sounds like you had a ball. Just back from the Border Track myself. Didn't come home via Mildura did you? I've got some issues with my Cepeks. They are seperating near the bead edge right on the rim of the tyre. It's hard to see unless you look carfully past the lip of the wheel rim. As they've got less than 5000 on them, I'll be into Tyrepower tomorrow I think.

Glad to see you had so much fun (and don't you hate those rear canopy windows going! Happened to me on the Navara).

Cheers. Mick

Hey Mick, Dont let the Tyrepower see that video of yours, reseating the bead with the gas, that may have a different opinion of the bead separation problem.. LOL!! Michael

Thank you Michael. Yes I'll keep that one quiet. Thankfully it was only the Cooper A/TR's and not the new tyres. They were still being saved as much as possible! It's drawn quite a few laughs and comments that one. Here's to bush trouble shooting lol. (You should see the first bit that I cut out. Now that's a laugh and a lesson on what not to do!). Cheers. A mate has the same problem with cracking near the bead on his Cooper STs. They are getting replaced free of charge next week by his local dealer. They only have 10,000km on them. Earlier this year he had his Cooper ATRs replaced by the STs free of charge because they were chipping badly...

I believe that Mickey Thompson and Cooper are made in the same factory.

Twinkles,
I guess others will have their opinions too, but my opinion is that at those speeds you didn't have enough air in the tyres on the Oodnadatta highway. I would have thought that anywhere you can do 130 kms needs more air in the tyre? Bit scary for me.

you would have to have a death wish to want to travel as those speeds , no wonder you had tyre troubles.
