sorry this is not a reply but a response to your screen name "chook charmer" being that you might be, how do I stop my white chook trying to kill my red chook? seriously, whenever she gets near it she jumps on its neck until its pinned to the ground and then proceeds to try and break its neck with its beak. I have one free range (and how come my scissoring of one wing back to its whites of the feathers and it can still sort of fly - this normal or is she really just jumping up to the fence ...) and the red needs now to stay in the enclosure. I'd send one off to Bruce's to eat except they are only ones laying at the moment.

Your white chook may actually be a "Rooster" hahahahaha

LOL whats in the feed pellets...maybe a dose of testosterone. I'd seperate the agro chook for a while...into a small enclosure..sounds mean but kept away from others sometimes cools them off. I've had chooks that still manage to sort of fly after being clipped. Found one clipped chook in my neighbours sitting on 16 eggs....didn't even know she could climb a fence! She used to pop over the fence during the day...leave the eggs and come home at night....go figure. Best of

Thanks, the white one gets commercial feed in the morning and the evening and poaches the duck's feed during the day and that it. I actually think she is a duck as she now sleeps with the duck but the white one does lay eggs so I'm sure isn't a rooster, we had two, Bruce (friend in the hills) got to eat them.

Might try a reunion on the weekend. Though it's complicated though cause the black chook has befriended the red chook as I kept her in the chook pen as a friend as the white chook had the duck ...

mayne I should just eat them all and start all over again, but how do I explain all the feathers and blood and sudden onslaught of meat for dinner to the 4yr old who considers them pets ...

There is a grassed camping area behind the pub that you can use for a small fee. Haven't been there for awhile now so things may have changed. Did not stop overnight & can't give you any info of local sights though. Cheers

Pub is often full of locals etc.. and an interesting place. Not sure who owns and runs it now, but an interesting place.
Don't camp around Gidgee trees ("stinking wattle") if there's any moisture around, they smell something awful according to the cook. And that area is infested with them. She made me drive on; all the way to the Isa. It was a long day from Alice Springs, I can tell you.

Stay in pub grounds for free( grassed ) great stop over full of Murray kids playing in the park opposite pub. Take the time to have a game with them. then head across the road for a tinnie with there mums and dads. A real eye opener with friendly people. Cheers Tony
