I'm thinking of buying a van maybe 20 years old and if I can get something in reasonable condition I am wondering how I should maintain it.
Any advice at all would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Cruiser,
The one I've heard and seen used is the "Very
Bright Light Test". Brother used this method to dust seal his Jayco. In a dark shed or on a very dark night, have someone crawl around inside the van with a very
bright light working their way around all the seams and joins from the interior of the van. At the same time, someone outside is following their progress and looking for light. Where they see it shining through an edge or seam, it's marked and siliconed up.
Cheers,
Mick

The safest way would be clean off anything you see on old sealers and re-seal with sikaflex. The right way is remove all the corner trims and hatches, reseal with mastic. Put it all back together and clean off excess mastic with mineral turps.

forgot to mention do the same with the windows. New vans have a foam tape behind the window frame but the old ones had mastic or
putty. Remove the windows and reseal with mastic. You can buy the right mastic at Camec in your state.
