I am looking at a way to lift the rooftop tent up under the patio roof, to store it and place it back on the car with some sort of strap system. Any ideas?

Brian, I did the same thing, also with canoes etc.
I rigged up a pulley in each corner ($12.40 at bunnings)
I then ran ropes through them, guiding the ropes to another 4 pulleys in one corner.
attach hooks or the likes (straps under and between, or place a timber beam under each side attached to the ropes.) to each corner.
It is then as simple as going to the corner where all the ropes meet and pulling all 4 tight. Then pull them all together.
You can spend a bit extra and buy those self clamping pulleys to save a bit of time and efort, but I found them to be very hard to release all 4 at once.
Make sure you have a tie point for your 4 ropes so it doesnt come down quicker than it went up.
Also I would advise spreading a timber beam across 2 roof trusses in each corner above your patio to share the load of the pulleys.
(Don't want your roof to come down quicker than your tent!!!)
Hope this helps

Of course a better alternative is a set of skyhooks with a swinging skycrane, but I believe they are still on back order at Bunnings!!! (It is friday!)
