We have been told that in certain areas of Queensland that they restrict the use of outboard motors to only 4 strokes due to the additional polution caused by 2 strokes.
We are heading north soon on holidays and want to find out what lakes, rivers, dams etc have this restriction as we have a 15hp 2 stroke Mercury on our tinnie.
Where can we get this information from ?

I have fished on 5 dams this year and not heard of this. There is one that restricts the size of the motor to I think 6hp.
They were all the Stocked Impoundment dams.

I wouldn't think that you'll have trouble on most
places in Qld.
The only one i can see that may be a problem (though the chances of going here may be small) is
Lake Lenthall . <== Click on the link to take you to the details about limited 2 stroke restrictions.
Enjoy yourself.

Yes Lenthalls Dam now only allows motors with 3 Star rating. Pretty much means 4 stroke or Evinrude E-Tec (though some of the older 4 strokes don't meet the criteria I believe.
It is the only one I'm aware of at the moment, but in time I suspect others will follow. Some (Hinze Dam on
Gold Coast for example) ban all outboards and only permit electric motors.
Your 15 HP Merc 2 stroke is probably the most popular 'roof topper' motor around and is fine elsewhere. I had one, before moving up to a Yammy 20 HP.
Am now changing over to a 4 stroke for fuel efficiency, less noise and better for environment. But it will be much heavier and of course is much more expensive to buy initially.
For most travelers the 15 HP 2 stroke is the ideal motor. Keep it and have fun.

Yep, Norm is spot on.
Lake Lenthalls is the first, there will be more to follow...
(and my 'real' job is for the corporation that owns and operates
Lake Lenthalls)
