Chocolate teapot,Ii have seen that thread but i was concerned about the overall size and where the hell I'm going to put it as we are already stacked to the gunnels when we go away. Current ARB pump is under the bonnet so this would be additional not a replacement. Also not portable.

Brenton, The ABR unit looks huge also, it looks like its output is pretty good but i had the same problem. I bought a USA made Big Red, although the performance is way down compared to newer compressors, finding a place to put those big units is a problem unless you have a ute or trayback canopy type vehicle. So while the Big Red is not big on output, its reliability should be good. The only place i found that was left over was inside the spare wheel mount on the GU Patrol. Pic below.. Ingenious Michael...but thinking further on it isn't the air intake going to clog up with dust?

Gday Brenton, Roachis suggested that i could drill through the door and put the intake on the inside of the door , great idea but i will do a trip first and see how it goes.. It has a 2 stage air filter so thats its purpose, to keep the dust out.. I also have used the spare as a 100 litre tank, and the air chuch swings up from the centre of the antenna bracket.Image Could Not Be Found works a treat. Pics below. Michael

Michael, dunno if your car is different from mine but the aerodynamics of mine are such that the back door literally swamps with dust if travelling down a loose dust road or in bulldust. I can't see any filter handling that. If you can get your hand through the spaces on the rim a simple solution may be to place an elasticised cover over the filter while travelling and simply reach in and take it off when you need to use the pump..if not I would go with Roachies suggestion.

I have similarly constructed unit from Projecta. Great output rate, but quite dodgy design inside. I reworked it and placed it in rear right quarter of my LC80 – have a look into my profile to see photo.

Cheers
