Hi All,

Sometimes when on the beach fishing we have some beach worms left over.

Do any of the fisho's on the forum have a recipe for curing them so that they can be used at a later date?

Cheers,

Greg

I have great success doing the following -

Collect some super dry white sand from the top of the beach. Quickly dunk each worm in a bit of metho (_Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx some moisture out of them so they don't burst when you freeze them). Roll in the dry sand and package singularly with a bit of the dry sand in a ziplock bag - Freeze. They will be like fresh when you go to use them and have kept them for 6-12 months preserving them this way.

You can also salt them with heaps of course cooking salt, but they are a bit tough and leathery when you go to use them.

Cheers

What "age" said!

My grandfather taught me that one, along with how to catch the little blighters!

Geoff,

Grey hair is hereditary, you get it from children. Baldness is caused by watching the Wallabies.

This method gives a natural look when taken from freezer

1 use live worms only
2 wash in salt water
3 place in container, leaving a little salt water to avoid them going hard
4 pour in 1 cap of cochneel (red stuff) and leave for ½ hour , to allow them digest
5 Add 1 cap of metho (2 if 50 worms) and leave for a short while
6 Take out and drain
7 pack in sealed plastic bags and place in freezer.

Thanks very much, Fellas. I'll be giving both methods a try.

Once again this forum provides the answers!!

A little bit off topic, but what method do people use to keep the worms alive at the beach. I have tried rolling in sand and keeping them in a container and also keeping in water. Which is the best method to keep them alive the longest.

Thanks

Hi Robyn,

We always keep ours in sea water while on the beach, and replace the water often.

When we get back to camp, we keep them in a broccoli box half full of sea water with an aerator running full time.

This way, we've kept them alive for over a week.

But changing the water often is the key.

Greg..
