Hi Stefan,
About 25 years ago we went up to
Cape York the frst time. On the way back down and just short of
Coen my mates CJ5 Jeep spat a LH rear wheel bearing.
If you look at the bottom of this post you'll see my old tabletop Landcruiser towing it backwards, his towbar tongue on top of
mine.
Anyway, on to your question. Whilst we where sorting out the tow a couple of blokes in another table top cruiser pulled up.
In the back of the ute they had 2 domestic chest freezers (one freezer was apparently running as a beer fridge) and an electric start generator.
When the thermostat on either the fridge or the freezer wanted some cooling it would spark up the starter motor on the electric start generator. When both had reached temperature the generator would shut down and wait for next time!
Don't know how far they'd travelled or how far they where going but they reckoned it was a great set up.
Back in those days every distance you where given to
places of interest was in beers, about a six pack. Or a big trip was half a carton! Only ever heard mention of a carton trip once!

Met a local delivery chap, out the back of Yowa opal fields with a domestic kerosene fridge in the back of his ute. No it was not burning kerosene, but the exhaust from the vehicle engine provided enough heat up the fridge chimney to keep the perishables cold while he delivered them.
Thinking out side the square.

Hi,
We have a 70 litre 3 way primus. We had our local auto electrician wire up direct from the battery to a socket in the tray of our Hilux which we hook the fridge into when travelling. We also have an automatic cut off switch when the car is turned off - cost about $150
Cheers,
