Haven't tried this yet, but has anyone tried putting a snatch strap around your rear tyre ( around the tread ) and tie off to a tree etc, engage your diff lock to pull out of a bog. I guess if the strap slipped off it could do some panel damage, but with a bit of care and taking your time I assume it would do when all else failed.

May work but far too many other options for a recovery for me to risk wrecking a snatch strap or squashing my brake lines in that manner.

Not yet.
But if you keep watching I'm sure some f**kwit will post his attempts on that universal "Look at me" known as U-tube.
Should be hilarious watching him destroy panels.
On a similar idea there are available attachments that bolt onto the wheel hubs which allow one to use rope or cable in the same way as your idea. there were comments on this site but I cannot remember the name of the attachments.
Someone else may be able to help.
Disco.

A snatch strap isn't designed for this sort of thing.
If.... IF.. I was to try this, then I would probably try it with a tow or winch extension strap.
Cheers

Hi Pete,
Fair Question, but in reality it would be almost impossible to get the strap to run straight on the tyre,(if you could get it under the tyre and locked off),very hard to turn the wheel slowly enough to stop the strap slipping off and probably a really quick way to lose a finger or two. (Or the brake lines and panels, as already mentioned)
This device is called the Joey - one of a few devices around.
These devices work
well but are not overly popular as they are bulky and require a bit of work to put on and take off (as
well as clean).
Mind you once you are stuck in a salt pan everything you do takes a lot of work.
I find Maxtrax to be quicker and easier though

They are good insurance though as you can also have dual
wheels on each side of the vehicle or use em as a winch.

also a brand called the "bush winch". Type it in google and it comes straight up. I think i seen a post on this one before from memory. This one seems simple enough, u swap out your wheel nuts for the "special ones" which u leave on all the time and the adaptor just slides and twist on....sounds simple enough
i didnt get one because it sounded like a a bit of a dodgy/more dangerous way off winching plus $800-900

I actually got stuck coming down a deep rutted
hill one day, all
wheels fell into ruts and i was sitting on my diffs, i only had the snatch so put it around the tyre, it was enough to get me out of trouble and home anyway.
