Anyone know - where the best place to buy a second hand Toyota 1HD FTE turbo diesel engine & gearbox for a Cruiser in WA?

Is there one particular wrecker who specialises in Wrecking Toytos 4wd's for example?

Been outta touch with Perth for 30 odd years - not sure who wrecks what and where now days - hoped someone on here might have their finger on the pulse.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Cheers.

Don't know about over there, but my dad just got a 25,000 km old 1HD FTE motor, transfer and 5sp auto for $11000 over here on the east coast. Just a ball park figure for you when you get prices

No,

Effie still outranks any Tojo at 7.3 liters of intercooled Turbo Diesel with LPG gas injection! Add one of Jody Tiptons DP Tuner Program chips, a 4 inch Exhaust, and your looking at 400+ RWHP.

Son, however is planning to upspec his 80 series power plant with a later model common rail 4.2 liter 24 valve T diesel 1HD FTE that he can Chip, add the LPG too and Intercool..... he aims to get about 230 - 250 HP maybe.....compared to the about 150 -170 HP he gets now.

Figures to outperform the Brunswick Deisels Chev 6.5 V8 diesel conversions, using the 4.2 Toyota engine and some aftermarket white man magic in the LPG & Safari Intercooler as well as a chip!.

Looking for more HP and less weight for better fuel economy, may even alter the Diff ratios for longer highway legs.

We shall see I guess.

Cheers

Probably the best option is to look for a 78/79 wreck in your local pickles.com.au...i have details of a 100 series motor minus computer and box for 5k in Melbourne, was on ebay

I havnt heard of anybody that has added LPG to a 1HD-FTE that has already been fitted with a Safari HO chip.
However as I already have a 1HD-FTE fitted with the Safari HO chip I would be interested if anybody has yet attempted to combine the two. I thought tuning such a beast may cause problems.
I would be interested to hear if anybody has attempted to combine both LPG/Safari HO SYSTEM on a 1HD-FTE and any problems encountred??

If theres a problem with the Safari HO Chip & LPG - I was actually thinking of sending a dyno readout to the USA to Jody Tipton of Dp Tuners fame, ( http://www.dp-tuner.com/) and have him write me a series of "custom software programs & chip" for the IHD-FTE, with the LPG on it!

He saw my F 250 7.3 with and without LPG, dyno graph and reckons he can write programs & supply chip for it with LPG, so I imagine he wouldn't have much trouble writing one for a Tojo 1 HDFTE - just a question of sending the Dyno graph most likely.

If the Safari chip will work well n good - but the DP Tuner chips for the F 250 at least are well respected, with selectable programs for:-

Valet (drops the HP so the kids parking your car don't arc it up in the car park)
Zero Tune (Car won't run - sort of a anti theft system - without the PIN it's going no where).
+ 20 HP Power tune
+ 20 Hp Economy Tune
+ 20 Hp Towing Tune
+ 40 HP Power
+ 40 Hp Economy
+ 40 Hp Towing
+ 80 Hp Power
+120 Hp Power
+ Smoke Tune (Overfuels and pours out baclk smoke at the lights just befoe you want to dial up an extra 120 ponies for a breif squirt from the green against some other vehicle that needs to be taught a lesson in humility!)

Thats about 10 "individual programs" written specifically for your truck with it's individual modifications dependent upon it's dyno performance graphs..

Of course they aren't cheap at around $350 US for the chip & programs.

If it is an auto - the programs include the altered change points for the transmission as well.

Lots of people swear bye them, we just don't see a lot of them here downunder is all.

I have mine fitted with Gas, and then fitted a Dtronic Chip. I did not find much difference after fitting the chip.

There were no problems with it, but I was a little worried that I may cook the engine.

If I had a pyro fitted then I would be more relaxed about the combination. I just love the gas though.

I only get about 1 L/100 better economy but the power and smoothness of it is . . .WOW.

I would try Midland 4wd ,Tonys Auto wreckers or Perth 4x4.
You might have to put your name down and wait for something like that.
It will probably be easier on the east coast.

Another option would be to buy a wrecked landcruiser at Pickles Auctionor Ross' Auctions
They are both online
