hi guys
i want to install cruise control on GQ patrol. The speed sensor on the cruise control can use magnets on tail shaft or an inpulse generator. I don't know what a impulse generator is but have been told that the speed sensor on the gear box end of the speedo is an impulse generator and that it can be used as a pick up for cruise control. The work shop manual has no info. any body got any ideas.
Thanks in advance.

On mine the impulse sence wire is the blue and white one that enters the dash on the left side with a whole bunch of other wires you will have to remove the instrument panel to access it
Mine is a 95 model but I think all are the same
Best of luck Kev

Hi Al

When I did my GQ 3lt I tapped off the 2 wires that come from the gearbox sensor. I did this near where the wires go over the gearbox. And fed them up the gearstick cover and under carpet.

Just scrapped some of the insulation off and soldered in extra parallel wires that went off to my new deivce.

My new speed sensor didn't have a balanced input (as some do) and one of the 2 wires had to be earthed , just earth it and if speedo stops you have the wrong one.

No harm done.

Hi Al,
The gearbox sender is the way to go on the Nissan, as the magnets on the tailshaft are too unreliable.
If you're using an AP50 CC, the pulses from the sender may be too fast for the AP50 (you'll prob have trouble cruising abve about 90km/h). I made a cheap programmable device for my GU which halves the pulse rate from the gearbox sender, and it works fine. It can be programmed for other pulse rates if necessary. The GQ should be the same as the GU for sender impulse rate.
The circuit is on the Yahoo Patrol site, otherwise get back to me.
