Hi,
We are going to Fraser at the end of October for about 5 days. I was just wondering what the Island is like at the moment eg: the inland tracks and what's it like to drive around
Hook Point or do we have to take the bypass track to get around
Hook Point? I was also wondering if anyone could recommend any
places to go. We have been about 5 times in the past couple of years and have been to the usual spots. Also just curious about the price of Diesel on the Island. Thanks

We returned last Saturday after a week on the island.
Hook Point is passable if your tides are right. We got back off the Island a couple of hours before low tide but the low tide was a high low tide and we only just had enought beach. Saw cars trying to get up the first high
water exit coming back and bogged
well and truely, so if you have to do the high
water track be aware it is soft. The second track up looked shorter and not so soft. You will need to look at the time tides and the height of the tides when you are leaving. The track from the barge to the hard stuff on
Rainbow was very soft coming off but was great going to the barge the week before. Lots of cars and trailers getting bogged. One did in our party.
The inland tracks are rough and in some
places very soft and sandy.
Heaps of whales to be seen. One day just sitting around
camp looking out to sea we saw at least 18 and some of them were performing big time for us.
Didnt look at price of diesel as we had enough for the trip as we had a couple of jerrys we took with us. Filled up at
Rainbow before leaving for the Island and then just put a spash and go at the
Mobil at Moby Dicks south of Caloundra turn off on the way home.
Tailor were on and off with some small catches and some really big ones but by the end of October will probably be smaller catches as it will be at the end of the season.
Enjoy your time.
Cheers
Robyn

hi katrina,
search the next couple of pages for fraser island threads, there were atleast 2 of them done in just the last week. i posted up the prices of diesel on one of those threads but can't remember now what they were.
as for somewhere different to go, have you been to
lake allom to see the turtles?
what about doing a trip over to wathumba for lunch, nice spot where the
creek meets the ocean there. wouldn't be my choice for a
camp spot but did see others
camping there, very nice scenic lunch spot though.
have you been to lake birrabean, just as nice as mackensie in my opinion but without the crowds. in saying that, if you go to mackensie, walk up the left of the lake and find the second beach track, follow it for about 100 mtrs and you'll have the place to yourself more then likely.
