Blue Rag Range Track

Anyone able to provide advice on conditions I can expect to find on Dargo high plains road and Blue Rag Range Track this weekend? Coming from Dargo end.

I'll be travelling solo - so I liketo minimise chances of finding myself in a tricky situation (ie. easy and moderate tracks only).

In a 75 series land cruiser.

Thanks in advance.

Tim,

Blue Rag is not for the faint hearted.

Not sure that the track has open for this season. If it has it would have been in the last week.

Those Troopy's certainly keep you on your toes in the Hills don't they Wayne not that those dual spares & roof rack etc are helping your stability any :-) My 75 was the most unstable vehicle I've owned & despite it's reliability was pretty happy to see it go.
Cheers Craig..............

As mentioned above I don't know if Blue Rag is open yet. I went over to Bright not last weekend but the weekend before and on the way over, High Plains road had the boom gate over it but on the way back it was up! Very little snow at Hotham on the way over and less on the way back. If the High Plains road is open it should be fairly easy as Engineers/Baldhead were easy about 6 weeks ago even with moderate snow cover, although they are at a lower elevation. Check DSE web site for more info.

Last time I went up there somebody had obviously smashed a diff or transfer case etc, because there was a huge amount of oil just after a very big rock!

It will open for cup day weekend.

You will be fine in your 75 Series, done it many times in a Pajero. It is not too hard. Only problem is that the trees are burnt beyond regrowth which is a real shame.

The photo above makes it look a lot worse than it is. ( Horizon alert?)

Blue Rag Range Track is open up to the intersection of the Basalt Knob Track. There is a locked gate just after this intersection. The rest of the Blue Rag Range Track (the interesting section that you probably want to do) reopens on Thu 30 Oct (in time for the Melb Cup weekend).

You might want to check out other Seasonal Track Closures via this link.

The good part is closed until the end of this month, Tim, but we did it fairly easily in January with a stock standard '07 Triton.
