how long to do the Canning Stock Route?

Just the trip itself. The getting there and getting home I can sort out later.

Gossy,

The trek note on the system will tell you how long. Both in terms of hours behind the wheel and the minimum days based on people having driven the route. The hours behind the wheel is calculated from GPS driving data. So click the link to the Canning Stock Route and your questions will be answered.

We took three weeks on the actual stock route, which allowed plenty of time to stop and look and explore everything along the way.
We also had four days where we didn't travel at all and a few more where we either stopped early or left camp later in the day, only travelling for 2 or 3 hours on those days.
Yes you can do it in a shorter period but why bother, if you are going to all the effort and expense to travel it make the most of it.

Gossy,

I would also go along with Peter as far as days to travel the CSR.
By the time you visit every well and take a few hundred photos the time just goes.

Spend some time in camp and enjoy the area.

It depends on conditions and how long you want to drive each day. Most people look at 16 - 21 days. If you are in a group add a day or so. If you go to every well you will be near the 21 end. I have heard some people do it in 11 but it would be a bit of a race. If you are in a hurry I suggest you take a set of spare shocks. The CSR is a marathon and if you drive for 12 hours a day it is unlikely anyone will enjoy the trip and you will be unlikelyy to ever get your partner in the 4wd again! It is a long long drive. Having said that at a reasonable pace it can be a very enjoyable trip. We took it easy and my wife really enjoyed it as our first major desert trip.

I did hear of someone who did it in seven days, they were complaining that was rough and they wrecked their suspension ;-))
They also complained that it was too hot (as it is in October/November) so they just drove every day in the airconditioned vehicle. Why?

Gossy

The first full CSR trek took us 21 days. This included a 2 day side trip into Helen Spring. Could have extended the journey by a few days.

Cheers
