Hi everyone,
My husband and I are taking the kids and the in-laws to
Ballarat for the Melb Cup weekend and I was just wondering if anyone knows where we could throw a line in and have some sort of chance of catching a fish, a bit of fun for the kids.
Last time I was there the Lake was dry, not sure how thats looking these days.......probably still not good for fishing though.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
cheers

Last time I went past the Lake was bone dry... don't believe anything has changed there.
As to catching a fish....
Ballarat's not that far from the coast :)

Bekali,
There is very little
water in Lake Wendouree and no fish, no
water to speak of in Lake Burrumbeet and Lake
Learmonth is bone dry and has been for years.
You will struggle to find anywhere to fish other than a couple of smaller creeks around town, these require local knowledge and lots of walking which probably won't suit the kids.
There are a couple of reservoirs around town with a bit of
water in them but I don't know of fishing restrictions on them. Try calling Central Highlands
Water on ph 03 5320 3100 and ask them for advice on fishing the local reservoirs.
You could try a couple of Dams in Victoria
Park that are stocked with redfin, but I'm not sure how you'll go given they get whacked pretty hard by local kids anyway.
Sorry I couldn't give you more options...
Batman.

Ballarat tourist info will put you onto a trout farm to the north . Good entertainment for the kids with fish guarranteed , but be careful about the cost of fish that you keep .

Ahh yes forgot about the Tuki trout farm, is located about ~25min ~40k drive to the north of
Ballarat.
The website has all the info you need
http://www.tuki.com.au.
Cheers,
Steve.
