I'm looking for an efficient 12v or 240v oscillating fan to use in my caravan this summer. Only operating off deep-cycle batteries but have a large PSW Inverter, so 240v is an option if this is the best type of fan.
So my question ... thread 40483 mentioned that there are two types of fans; the inefficient "shaded pole induction motor" & the efficient "brushless motor". So how do I tell the difference since most packaging (& sales-people) don't have this level of detail??

Best of luck. I havent been able to find one of those animals yet. Next one we will try is the Colman protable fan with magnet attachment. Its small and about as quite as you will get it runs two nights on a D size battery. So have to plant another 150 trees before I go
camping. Other than that all I have found are quite noisy. Hopefully while I watch this thread someone will have found the bees Knees of 12v fans. Cheers tony

I recently fitted a jaycar 120mm fan (part number YX2518) to vent the cavity behind my fridges. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of noise although I have not had it on in the middle of the night.
