I've searched and read up on front & rear diff lockers for toyota 80 series, and was headed towards ARb Air operated lockers.

Today someone suggested original equipment Toyota difflocks for front & rear from one of the vehicles that came out standard with them.

Is there any reason NOT to stick to original manufacturers equipment - IF one is able to source both front & rear lockers for the 80 series?

Just curious of any known downsides

Cheers

I would say sourcing them and price would be the only concerns

Also, from my understanding, you need the complete diff ass. ,from disc to disc-drum to drum as you carnt fit gen toyota diff locks to std toyota diffs.

I would go ARB.
You would then have a full warranty. Also they engage much fast than standard lockers. I bought my toopy new and the lockers can be slow to lock and unlock

I have a new Troopy with original electric lockers and I usually lock the diffs in before I need them as there can be a delay on engagement. The manual says that you shouldn’t use them above 8kh for safety reasons – I have no problem using them at 40ks in sand.

Follow up - thanks everyone for the advice. After a few visits to experts this week - the result was pretty much "Come Say, Come Sah".

Ended up we decided to go for the original equipment Tojo lockers (electric) from a 4 x 4 dismantlers.

Really theres little $ difference between ARB Air lockers ...once your all done - $1700 for two axels complete hub to hub with the lockers, probably about $1100 to remove the old ones & fit the repleacements - then a auto sparkys cost to wire them all up.

So probably about $3500 ish once completed, compared to ARBs lockers at $3500 installed front & back.

OK - no warranty.......granted, but - assuming we can source a few original equipment switches - it is nice for the aesthetics to stay "all original manufacturers equipment" where possible..

One thing we have concluded is that while we have the whole axels out both front & back - we might as well upgrade to the larger front disc rotors and calipers & larger master cyclinder for better stopping ability, this will mean replacing the 15 inch original chrome cruiser rims to 16 inch aftermarket rims & hence more cost....but if the route of going electric lockers gains us some extra stopping power as well, that is probably worth the cost.

Damn thing goes like a rocket with the diesel gas & the intended addition of a safari air to air intercooler as well & 3 inch exhaust will further increase that again...so extra anchors fore and aft could be a smart expenditure, given the way the young feller drives!

Cheers
