I put 3 inch body blocks and an extra leaf in my springs (that added 2" so it must have been sagged by an inch to start with) and it was most certainly able to get 33's under the guards but whether anything needed chopping in the inner guards I could not tell you as I sold the rig before I added the 33's. I needed to chop the crap out of the opening for gear knobs as trying to put it into low range the lever would bang up against the back of the opening before low range would be engaged. It was seriuosly top heavy and rolled quite scarily at times. At the time (6 odd years ago) BFG muds were available in a 33 x 9.5 which would be most ideal as any wider and you would need to add pretty big flares to keep tyres inside guards legally and also wider means more chopping in the inner guards for your full lock. You may just get away with no inner guard chop and 9.5 tyres with the lift I had on
mine????
Would I go that high on a Rocky again? Not really, I did all myself cheaply but I think it would take a heap of experience (read dollars in a
shop) to get it right. Lift via spring lift or talk to someone like superior engineering up at Brendale to see if they have drop schackles to suit the Rocky (these things had not even been contemplated when I was researching) then add maybe 31" tyres and be happy that you can take it where it goes. They are very capable.
I add, be aware of a seal between the g/box and transfer that allowed the transfer case to run dry on
mine not once but twice.
Cheers, Trevor.

I had a 85 lwb diesel rocky, and it did not have enough power to pull 31s let alone 33s. I settled I think for 235/15. Not once did I bottom it why do you want less power, less brakes, poorer handling, and more dangerous off road to boot. A new
suspension will give you a slight lift as it will remove any sag and give you more
suspension travel which is what you really need.
