Hi guys and Girls,
wondering how you would go about removing the heater box in a 2001 GU Patrol. the A/C evaporator has sprung a leak, so i need to remove it and replace with a new one (the evaporator).
has anyone had any experiences with this on a patrol...
can you get it out without removing the dash??

Not having had to remove an evaporator, I can't say with any certainty, but you could try removing the glovebox (pretty easy to do:)), and see if that will allow enough access...
the thing is pretty much right there (behind the glovebox;-))

I removed the whole dash from my Patrol to replace the evaporator. Not very hard to do just take photos if you think you need to but some things wont go where they're not supposed to go.
While it was out I took the chance to clean all the dust from air ducts and fan, Pretty much a phillips head screw driver and a 10mm socket is all you will need.
Hope this helps, and have fun
Cheers Luke who pulled it out twice cos the new O rings I was given were slightly smaller in thickness and leaked :(

A local auto elect welded
mine while it was in place to repair a leak, that was 2 years ago and stil going strong. Might be worth checking this as an option before removing the the thing.
Can't remember the cost but i am sure it was a shyte-load cheaper than replacing the evap.

Where are you? I got
mine a couple of years ago from a little independent work
shop in Elizabeth South (
Adelaide) for $100- new after market. I can't remember how much the tx valve was but I didn't get one. I was also told to replace the drier to but didn't
Cheers Luke
