I have had my "Big Red" for over 10 years - Should it be serviced and is there someone in
Perth who can do them - does not appear to be anything wrong but I dont want to risk it going Phutttt...... (it does overheat and cuts out) Is there such a thing as a service kit

When I bought
mine about 6 years ago, I was told no need to service them. A big part of the reason for going with the Big Red was that they are fully repairable. ie All parts can be replaced. I would imagine there is a service kit. In the instruction manual there was a full list of components with part nos.
If the unit is cutting out it normally maens it can't achieve the pressure required. Tried filling a 30L receiver with my Big Red but it continually cut out at around 90psi in the
tank. Thank god for the overload.
What is causing it to overload?
Paul

Paul Thanks - It has overheated and usually a wet towel placed over the pump fixes the problem (the compressor is in the engine bay and gets a bit hot anyway) Do you know who the Australian distributors are

Got
mine through 4x4 Megastore. From memory they are made by Thomas Industries in the States. I know the manual is out in the shed. Just moved house so it would take a while to find it!
Try cleaning the inlet filter before you go any further. The cover plate should unclip pretty easy. You will probably find that there are a series of dirty dots on the filter which line up with the cover plate. Rotate the filter or cover plate by a couple of degrees and see if this helps.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Trekkie,
Just googled 'big red compressor' and got quite a few Aussie sites, too many to cut and paste.
Might be worth your while having a look.
Good luck,
