Hi i'm planning on going up north
camping from
Perth to
Exmouth, i'm taking my 5 month old Border Collie and i'm concerned he is going to get eaten by sand flies. Is there anything that i can put on the dog to stop them or how bad is he going to get effected??
Are the sand flies bad at this time of year, I'll be
camping mostly near
the beach??

use the stuff that horse owners use to keep flies of them. pretty sure you can get it from city farmers! use it on our dog and seems to be the only thing that keeps all the itchy and scratchys off her.
also vet recons heaps of garlic in her diet! don't know if that ones an old wives tail though.

the garlic treatment does work. we have a Siberian Husky & its nearly impossible to find ticks or fleas on him so we put a teaspoon of crushed garlic in his food 'bout 2 or 3 times a week.touch wood he hasn't had any problems .he's 4 now & we have been giving it to him since he was about 10 weeks old, cheers.

Brenda,
Just a few words of warning.
Cape Range Nat
Park (I think that's its name) goes from somewhere near Yardie
Creek and runs right up past
Exmouth.
National
Park rules prohibit dogs in the parks, 1080 poison is often used for fox control (to protect nesting turtles and their eggs) and is generally fatal to dogs.
As long as you do not stop to let the dog have a run in the
park you should be OK travelling through to
Exmouth.
Camping in the Nat
Park with a dog is not permitted but there are boarding kennels in
Exmouth if you want to spend a day or two camped at the
Park campsites.
Hope this doesn't spoil your plans too much but IMHO it's better to be fore warned than getting there and finding you can't do what you hoped to with you furry mate.
Disco.
