Morning,
I have a 100 T/D which runs the factory 4.1 ratio centres and was wondering has anyone changed to 4.3 to offset larger tyre diametres and how did it go? was it a marked improvement or was it a fizzer? as i tow the van and camper quite a lot i would like it to sit a bit higher in the rev range as i think 4th is a bit high and 5th is OK when conditions are perfect but thats rare and using cruise more often than not it drives me nuts kicking up and down gears when on cruise. as i also am considering some more power up bits the 4.3s might be good.i am probably going to get the 'dont use O/D brigade' jump on but thats what an auto does, automatically selects the desired gear for you.oh and i am also going to modify the valve body( change over ) in the auto to stop flaring 4 to 5 and improve 1st and second gear slip and down change when moving slowly. the things we have to do to offset the other mods we do, are we really sane or what? dont answer that please as i already know the answer hahahaha cheers and good morning to all. Paul

Paul,
If you
check out both Terrain Tamer & Mark's 4WD Conversions web sites, they both sell gear kits for transfer cases, with different percentage changes to both high & low range.
I know they do a 9% overdrive for high range, for L/C's, but think they also do a 9% under-drive for them as
well. Know a couple of EO people have gone for lower low range gearing, using this method.
Thought it might be a cheaper option all round, rather than 2 new diff centres?
Hooroo,
Bob.

Hi Paul I have had my diffs regeared, 4.56 to suit 35” on my 2005 100TD, I ran 33” on standard ratio for 3years before. It now feels a little less strained and climbs the hills quite
well back at the ratio Toyota designed it to have, I also had solid spacers fitted at the same time for a bit of peace of mind. As for the cruise control, it’s not worth a crumpet, drop a few K’s it changes gear. I have a Safari HO kit and it’s not as bad as it was with just a Dtronic, as it now responds better to cruise controls more throttle command in the 1 or 2 seconds before it changes down.
For 285/33” probably not worth the cost and the money could be better spent on other power upgrades but you have little choice for any bigger tyres.

I had
mine installed by Assassin Offroad in
Geelong and they are a genuine Toyota product from one of the V8 cruisers and of course cost more than some of the after market suppliers.

Paul, i went from 4.1 to 4.3 on a turbo diesel 80 series when i started running 35 inch tyres, and it returned the gearing to std, now if i had a manual, i wouldnt have bothered as the overdrive is .85, but my auto runs .78, so i am back to cruising at 2200 at 100km/hr, and not needing a change down.
My question to you is...being a factory turbo motor, and running IFS, do u know for sure if the RFS front gears (which are 4.3) will fit??
I have heard they will, but the IFS has a smaller front diff to the RFS
