Started the car one morning and block soot like snow came out of the exhaust on the diesel Paj. What do you think it could be?
It was the first start for the morning, and my lovely wife noticed it. Turned off the engine and checked the exhaust and there was a layer (2 to 3mm thick) of it in the end of the exhaust that you could wipe out with a stick.
It happened on our trip up to
Darwin and back pulling the CT. Checked the dipstick and it was down about 1/2 litre of oil from the 1600k of running over the previous 2 days.
Kept an eye on it for the rest of the trip and noticed that on full boost (17 psi) up an overtaking lane passing a truck that oil consumption for the day was a bit high.
So could it be ring flutter or something?
Have since backed off the boost to 15 psi (11psi is standard on the paj) and oil consumption now is not too bad.
Running Shell Rimula X 15W/40 in a re-conditioned engine,
well 20,000k into the new engine, so still running in.
Might go to a 20w/50 oil?

You've picked up some bleep fuel from somewhere. Use a fuel additive to help clean it out or the problem could get worse. I've got an NP Paj and have been through this.

Thanks,
The first load of fuel was a discount place in Mt Isa.
Also happened on the way home after
Gladstone (about 6000k later), used a litre of oil to do 600k. But we were passing a lot of slow trucks on the passing lanes around
Maryborough, and wife was driving. She doesn't spare the ponies.
Will try the additive.
