Hey everyone.
Made it back home in one piece after out very fist big trip away.
Was a fantastic, amazing experience for all of us.
Having been my first big trip away I was slightly overwhelmed by how far away from anything we were. Was just so out of my comfort zone. But I very quickly got over that and enjoyed ever bit of the trip (apart from the dust).
We covered just over 4000km I think it was. Went to Innamincka (via Noccundra). Love Innamincka, I know there's not much there but just a really nice place - and the ppl there are great. Was really disappointed with the Strzelecki Track, nothing like I thought it would be. Stayed a few nights at Leigh Creek which was great, and a few nights at Farina. Arrived at Farina in the middle of a dust storm. I was tired and cranky and sick of dust and just did not want to stay there...however hubby said I had no choice! Next morning, after the dust and wind was gone it was just sheer bliss.
Went to Marree, and then out to Muloorina Station for a few nights. Was a lovely place to camp, really worth the trip. Saw Lake Eyre....words cant describe it.
Lake Eyre was our final destination before we turned around and headed for home. Stayed at Camerons Corner. We were the only ones there so it was great to get to know the guys and girls there.
Had a few car probs. Nothing mechanical. Was all mainly due to the rough, corrigated roads. I think out bullbar was the first to go. Bolts snapped and it ended up on the roof. Winch came loose, axel almost fell out of the wheel hub. Battery got a hole in it and leaked (although that didnt die till we were back in cilvilization). I think the biggest prob we had was when the back window on the surf wouldnt open as the motor died so we were unable to get into the back at all. And as we have drawers in the back we were stuffed as most of our stuff was in the drawers. thank god we were back in Bourke by the time this happened. So the last few nights of our trip were spent in motel rooms but still had a fantastic time.

Only because I had heard so much about it....
And it was just a dirt highway. I guess I had painted a different picture in my head. We were told by the ppl at the trading pst that the Old strezelcki track was ok. Not maintained and very rocky. I actually thought we were on the wrong track as it was perfect. And Old Bill from the corner told us the same thing. Was still good, just not what I expected.

Yeah i know what you mean,
You hear the word "track" and expect a track.
This year we went along there and it was like you mentioned,,, but last year there were semi's bogged in quite a few spots and just had to leave them for days for the track to dry out,,, that was interesting... Depends on the weather at that exact moment as to what "track" you get...
Great drive between the birdsville track and innamicka along walkers crossing...
We got rained in there and was interesting trying to camp near the gas fields...
Anyway, glad you had a good time.

Welcome home
glad you had a good trip. Didn't take you long to post your pics.
Looks like you had quite a load. Now that you have travelled some of the best roads in the outback and suffered the damage that you did, you can understand why some of us get concerned when people on this forum advise others that they can do this and do that and just to let their tyres down and take it easy. The most important thing about travelling in the outback is preparation. I'm sure you've learnt some valuable lessons and will be even better prepared and more confident for your next trip. I'll bet you have even started to plan it!!!

Who is concerned about what?

Please elaborate.

Ha yes that was the best bit of the trip! I think all 3 of us were feeling quite sick by the time we got to Camerons Corner. We had a very very close call with a cow too. Was right on the other side of one of the 'upsy downs'. We missed it but the poor thing got such a fright it froze and bleep itself. My 6 yr old thought that was the funniest thing he's seen in ages.

Congrats on completing your maiden voyage to the outback. Hard to get the dust out of your viens once it is in there I reckon.

Glad all your problems were incidental and only added to the trip itself and didn't stop the trip.

Best regards,
Trevor.
