Phil,

I think that the Waeco has settings that will shut the fridge down when the battery gets to a certain level.

The setting can be changed. Check to see if the setting is on a high level, which would mean that the fridge turns when the battery get to 11v.

The battery is still good to start the vehicle but the fridge has shut down.

When the vehicle is started the battery returns to higher voltage and the fridge starts again.

Phil,

Firstly chesk the Low/Med/High switch. It sets the fridge to cutout at certain voltage levels (check in the manual).

Secondly, how is it wired up? If it is connected to wiring that has voltage drop and the switch is set to High, this may explain it.

Regards,

Jim.

Your query throws up a heap of questions that need to be answered before any form of cure can be affected ,
Dual batts ??
3 Position switch set on / economy /normal /high ??
Wire thickness ?? Is it thick enough to overcome voltage drop ??
How have you checked that your Batt is as you say "ok" ,, under load ? Static ? or while the motor is running ?

Most Waecos will shut down when static volts drop below 11.8v ,which is still enough to fire up the Hilux.

Phil S,
I'm having problems with my 60 litre at the moment. A good thread to look up is 42021. It has played up before and found that the plug in the rear of my car was stuffed, 12.5v at the rear and only 10.5 to the waeco lead. That was replaced and no worries for a couple of outings then the error light again. Off to the autoelec tomorrow to check the actual waeco lead as they apparently can suffer terribly from voltage drop. If that is all correct off to a waeco licensed repairer to the internal fuse upgraded. It is only 5amp and they apperently upgrade to a 9 amp. I'll give you an update tomorrow night.

I was going to get this internal fused checked on mine due to the same error light. Instead I was recommended to cut the waeco cable near the end that plugs into the fridge, and replace the rest with 4mm cable. Since then, it's been perfect.

hi phil
Just a thought is the fridge plugged in an accessory socket if so check that it works with the ignition in the off position most only work in accessory or with ignition on hope this helps as my pajero works in this way I ended up installing a spare battery in the back in a battery case and have since fitted dual battery solenoid to it

Just got back from the auto elec and plenty of power at the back of the plug, 12.5 amp (just prior to the fridge). S't the waeco repairman and maybe the fuse upgrade, possibly a new motherboard in it. Wost case scenario a $240 fix. I'm about to ring waeco. Ben
