Hubby came home the other day bearing a brochure for a "Two-Zone Chamber" which fits onto 29, 32, 39 & 40L Engel fridges to give extra fridge capacity of 21L. Basically you remove your Engel lid and fit the Two-zone chamber on top of the fridge using the existing hinge arrangement, then refit the lid to the new chamber.

The chamber is 300mm deep and comes in an almost matching Engel grey. A basket is provided so to access the original fridge chamber you either lift the new basket out or lift the whole chamber back on the hinges.

Stats quoted indicate that in fridge mode, the top chamber is about 4-5 degrees warmer than the bottom chamber. But in freezer mode, the top chamber becomes a fridge whilst the bottom section freezes, effectively turning your Engel into a combined fridge/freezer.

Two-zone chambers are very new to the market and manufactured here in WA. At this stage Engel aren't officially endorsing the product but apparently have been working closely with Two-zone as they developed the product and are keen to get in on the action by licencing Two-zone to manufacture the product under the Engel brand name (or so hubby was told).

Anyway, should be a good one to keep an eye on. An extra 21L capacity for $350 is bound to attract some attention.

G'day Melissa,

if its not to much trouble (and the e-brochure is under Hotmail's 1Mb mail item limit), could you foward a copy to hall_sa_99@hotmail.com. Certainly sounds like a good add-on.

many thanks,
Sam.

Melissa, I had heard of this about 12 months ago when the "inventor" contacted me to hire an Engel. To save you getting 50 requests for the soft copy brochure could you "hyperlink" it like Truckster did with the photo's of the Nissan that was one but became two. Regards Mark

Hi Melissa,

What you describe sounds great but most of us would have our fridges fitted so that we can access them inside the vehicle or on a slide-out. Add another 300mm and it would mean a great deal of stuffing around trying to get into the fridge! My fridge lid opens fully inside the vehicle. The cook still has to stand on the bumper bar step to access the goodies in the fridge. Another 300mm in height would make it nigh impossible. I would however be interested to see the e-brochure.
Here is my mail address in Truckster mode.

Wil, if you click on the pic then the whole story will be there for you to read. Thanks for the compliment but my old truck has just turned 25 years of age. I made the bracket for the spare myself. The spare is a casing and tube only. It works well but the bonnet is a tad heavy to lift !

Hi All,

Everyones's probably wondering where the e-brochure is. I accidently deleted it from my email (I get so many in the course of a day) so I rang the co. and asked them to send me another but so far nothing. I did get a hardcopy brochure on the weekend though so I will scan it and email it hopefully by tomorrow. Sorry about the delay.
