Batteries....opinions wanted

Hi all,
I have a small issue and I was wanting others opinions on the matter.
About 6 months ago I bought 2 new batteries from battery world. I trusted there reputaion and let them put in what they thought was best. I spent over $500 on the day. I was back 3 weeks later as the main battery they had put in had ruptured. i was told by road side assistance at the time that the battery that had been put in by bat world had been too large (was for a cruiser) and as a result had been rubbing against the fan belt thus causing the hole.
Battery world refused to replace the battery (even though it had a 2 yr warranty) and informed us that it was our fault as we must have been too rough with our car (which i will add was rubbish as it had been used only for city driving).

They have since replaced it with an $80 century battery (obviously not as good as the $250 battery we had been given in the first place). And would you believe that the battery they replaced it with is now too small. This is the battery that ruptured on our trip.

Does all this sound fair? I dont know what to do.

All opinions welcome.

Thanks,
Hayley

If your account is accurate and complete it sounds to me that you are being ripped off. I suggest a phone call to your local Consumer Affairs people is in order.

Thanks Hayley,

I'm in the market for 2 new batteries and have a quote already from battery world. Was going to head out there this morning - but have decided to cross them off my list now - having read this.

After sales service IS important - if they are too thick to realise that then - they won't get my business.

Hope it works out for you - there is always the small claims tribunal.

Cheers

Don't write them off, Each Battery World has a different manager/owner. I would just not use that particular store.

I have found that there are good Battery World agents and terrible ones. I don't know where you are from but Battery World in Joondalup WA gives great service. Maybe a letter to the main Franchise office could help.

What area are you and the dealer in

I deal with the Caboolture Battery World and they fitted the batteries to my cruiser pefectly.

Did them at a good price also Yaeusu Hybrid.

The size should be N70 eqiv as thats whats in the vehicle.

Am going back next week for two AGM's for the van as well.

Cheers

I have had very good backup & warrantee service from my local Battery World dealer so as already mentioned just don't use that particular store & let them know that you are spreading the word of their poor service. Cheers.

i was dealing with the Redcliffe Battery World. I lodged my complaint yesterday and was informed that Redcliffe Battery World is no longer part of the chain.
I was advised to go to the new battery world store opening at Rothwell and they would help me PURCHASE a new one!
Will def be taking this matter to fair trading.

if they recomended and fitted the battery then hell no everything from the choice of battery and its fitment in relation to everything is entirely their problem - as for them saying you were too rough on it ask them how rough you were and were they driving the vehicle. if they cant answer that with exact quantification tell them to keep their opinions to themselves

if they recomended the battery without seeing your individual underbonnet setup or did the fitting then whilst a bit unfair they would be within their rights to blame you (maybe)

You are being robbed....

I would be knocking someone's head off by now.. and sticking an $80 battery down their neck..

Apart from mindless violence the next step for you would be a call to the Office of Fair Trading.. make a complaint to them.

If they sell you the battery and install it and it fails then it is back on them to get it right.. I am sure the Fair Trade will see it that way as would small claims court. (although I have been burned in small claims on a ridiculous call by the so called magistrate.. Grrr)

It's worth keeping on their backs. I went to Battery World in the ACT this morning, prepared to spend up to $650 on two AGM camper batteries. I was after 120amp, the biggest they had was 100amp.

They didn't try to push the smaller 100amp ones, so I left without anything. Customer service was good in my view.
