Hi fellow formites,
I am in need of some help. I have a Hyland hitch on my van and I found the adjustment nut on top of the hitch receiver loose when I got home. You know the grub screw with the locking nut. My memory fails me as to the exact reason for these adjusters and how they are adjusted correctly. Can anyone enlighten me?
Kind regards
Theo

G'Day Theo,
I gather you are talking the nut/bolt on top of the hitch receiver on the vehicle.
This is tightened to stop the hitch moving around or bouncing during travel and transferring stresses to the caravan.
Also, with the hyland, ensure you have fitted a 3.5T rated ball so the hyland fits snuggly.
Regards
Rolande

G'day Rolande,
That's the one. The setup is OK and I have the right towball (3.5 tonne and longer) it was just that after I picked up the van I arrived home with the lock nut loose. I just tightened it in place but I was wondering the correct process. From memory it was something like, place the receiver on the ball and adjust to touch but this a 30 year old memory!
Kind regards
Theo

G'day Theo
What you said is how I always set
mine. Has worked so must be OK. Just tight enough stop the slopping around.
Wonder how it got loose? - someone hadn't tightened it I suppose. Never heard of them coming loose just from driving around.
BTW - how did you pick it up?

G'day Moose,
Had to drive it about 150K home and you know what it's like when you get home with a new toy you just have to touch everything. Noticed the locking nut was loose, bit odd I know, can't imagine why anyone would tinker with this once set.
Kind regards
Theo

Theo - me thinks it left the factory like that.
Mate had a similar experience not long ago. New van from a
well known and supposedly reputable manufacturer (not yours though) had a few issues related to quality control. I guess some people just want to get the job out the door.
Just as
well you found it when you did.
Cheers from the Moose
