HI all,
Yes folks - its true (well sort of true) we are now the owners of a Nissan 4X4 (its hard to believe I know). We have just recently settled on our Tree Change property (refer to Post 59491) and the property came with a number of things including a 1978 G60 (I wonder how many of them are still around). It runs well and starts first go but rust has taken its toll. Sold in 1978 by Ira Berk Brisbane (still has sticker – anyone remember them). Been powering around the property bush bashing in the rain with it yesterday – seems to go anywhere but rough as guts (I think the shockies have had it).Well anyway it’s a freebie so what can you expect …. (LOL).

PS I wonder how many hits that (TIC) heading will get me……

Here is the beast in all its glory ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here is a recent pic of 'Rosie' now residiong at Warraweena Station Conservation Park, Flinders Ranges. I bought her in Bundaberg in the late 1990's and towed a 27ft Viscount around Oz for three years. She had 360,000km on the clock then and when I bought the GQ I gave her to my mate Stony, the Manager of Warraweena with 560,000km on the clock. Four years later she serves well for station duties on very rough tracks and is still registered. She had some mechanical work done recently and I drove her about a month ago.

Rosie is a Mid Wheel Base 1978 Datsun 3.9lt also sold by Ira Berk in Brisbane. All the opriginal; papers are still in the glovebox. I bought it off a policeman(who sometimes frequents this site) and it had 5 speed aftermarket gearbox fitted by then.

Nissan Tough!

Gee Willem I hope thats not the one where the wheels fell off....
How did you keep the rust out of it - they obviously were not rust proofed in the factory in those days.
Mechanically mine is good condition but heavily rusted - probably from being parked in the open (with no roof - it was rolled not long from new and the punched in roof cut off). It was written off and only used as farm vehicle since almost new - genuine 50,000km on clock so Im told.
Would mine be 3.9 litre engine as well - it is only 4 speed.

Not sure about the wheels comment? I did lose a wheel on the GQ last year (my fault)

It was rustproofed privately after purchase. It has very little rust in it and it lived on the east coast for 20 years before I took it inland.

They all came out initially with a 3 speed. Two drive gears and a Donkey Low

This is what it looked like in its heyday with us

Bruce

I remember many incidents like that up in the Top End some 30 years ago.

Yep, the old non electric trucks were the go. Take the plugs out and crank the motor over to get it to spit the water out. Plenty of CRC used to get the dizzy working again and away you go. Even got a diesel Tojo going in that manner once

Here's mine, I bought it 2nd hand in 1978, I think it was about a 1974/5 model, 3 speed gear box. Pretty tough, but thirsty on petrol and used to burn valves when driven to loud for too long. Had many a good trip in her though. And that's not me in the photo.Image Could Not Be Found
