G'Day all,

Ive decided to buy a black wolf turbo, thats decided.

I'm just not sure if I should spent the extra and get the canvas turbo, I'm thinking it will be stronger, cooler in summer, warmer in winter, or go the turbo lite.

But my main reason for a black wolf is camping with young children I CANNOT have a tent fold in on me or collapse or worse in some of the strong winds which can whip up quickly in my camping areas.

I know there are a good few BW owners here, but...

Is there anyone who has had a turbo lite 240 in seriously strong winds? I'm talking the kind that destroys cheaper tents.

If so how did it fair??

Right now I'm a bit stretched to go the canvas but if its really worth it I will wait n save up.

All info very welcome.

Rgds

I don't think the BW Lite fabric is an issue in strong winds, fabric is more relevant in terms of durability i.e. Water, Sun, U.V. etc. If the fabric "Gives" for want of a better word during strong winds, this would be a good thing as it has somewhere to go with the gusts etc. I think your decision on which tent is more relevant to long term use and fabric durability etc.

Whilst I haven't subjected any of my tents to more than 40-50 knots I can't speak for the BW Turbo Lite however the ripstop polyester is very strong, if the tent was secured properly I don't see any issues.

Buy what you can afford and don't stretch yourself , financial security is very important right this moment.

Said IMHO.

The Lite is not as strong as the canvas I have both, the Lite is not as strong in wind & rain and is see through with a light in side go the canvas for family. Blackwolf is a strong tent best investment

havent had our 'lite' in strong winds but it has faired extremely well in pretty decent winds and also major down pours.....

they are certainly lighter and make it so much easier for nathan throwing it up on the roof everyday wen it comes time to pack up....

we have had the turbo 300 at lake eyre in 100km wind that destroyed all the other campers tents (all were cheap nastys) and now have the lite plus.....

It is still built very strongly - if not some things are better than the first one we had....straps are longer for a start.....

Hello, we've not had a good experience with Black Wolf Turbo Lite - great concept but we had quality control issues and leaks. Took it back and got our money back. See Black Wolf Turbo Lite review.

Ill second that. We have the 4x3 family tourer. Best tent on the market. Expensive but you only buy one. The spring loaded centre pole does work. No wind will blow em down

Hi Ron,
I recently purchased the Black Wolf Turbo 240 for a camping trip to Shoal Bay during the last School Holidays. We had a bit of rain and pretty strong winds and the tent didn't budge. It is an excellent tent, easy to put up and take down.
I use a large queen air mattress and underestimated the size. I have listed the 240 in the trader section as I would like to purchase the Turbo 300.
I will be definitively staying with the Black Wolf.
Shaun.

I have a standard Turbo 240 & love it. The most wind we have been subjected to was at Chambers Pillar & it was extremely strong!!!
Came though it without problem. We were travelling with a couple in a dome tent which collapsed.

Yeah seems the go,

thanks for all replies. Think I'll try go the std canvas, mostly our camps are all good but we have seen some very bad storms which can whip up in 15mins flat.

Not an often occurence but if you get caught in one unless you got good gear, your gonna loose it.

Hi Ron,
I have had a Lite 250 for a for nearly two years and have it set-up in 30+knot winds and driving rain and had no damage or leaks.

Like Renno I have recently upgraded to the Lite 300 (for the space) and the first time I used it rained most of the weekend no leaks in the tent. Then just the other week I had it set-up on the south bank of a lake with 40knot northerlies and had no damage. The poles on one side were flexing significantly, which absorbed the buffeting from the wind.

cheers
Gavan
