Hi Looking for somewhere to go for a quick weekend camping in mid to late november. We are coming from west, friends from Melbourne so somewhere 100-150 west Melbourne would be convenient.

On the Vic Parks site, Brisbane Ranges Boar Camp and Lederderg Gorge O'Briens Crosing camping area look interesting. Can anyone tell me what these two places are like, facilities etc. We will both have camper trailers.

Hi Outback epicurean
Re Brisbane ranges we live near by and they are a great place to visit but being very close to civilisation, have the usual problems ??
Ok for a day trip or o'night at places you mentioned. My advice would be to head for the Otway Ranges south of Geelong get hold of the Meridian Map 2nd edition, it's great place to get lost ( have a great time ) Variety of things to do.If you really only have a quick w'end as mentioned the Wombat State Forrest map covers the area you mentioned. O'Briens crossing is a nice spot but I'm tipping with the lack of rain the crossing will be dry and dusty.Hope this helps
Safe travels

Hey Outback Epicurian, i would hardly call you "Outback" 100-150 kms from Melbourne, but you are coming from the West. I know it takes a lot to get people to drive further.

Just West of Ballarat, before you get to Ararat is the Pyrenees and Mount Cole. Beautiful areas and satisfy your epcurian interest assuming the other part of the name stands true. LOL Waterfalls Camping area, Camerons Track or Glenpatrick are three areas around the Pyrenees. There is another to the North but unmarked. There are a couple around Mount Cole too. Glenpatrick has flush loos and the EO mob will have been there just a week or so before you.

Hi

Thanks for ideas. Yes this is not outback but no time to go anywhere elase at the moment. Have camped in the Mt Cole area a few times and quite good, just looking for somewhere different. And the epicurean bit is the reason to go there, always good to cook in the camp oven

cheers

O'Brien's...we camped there about three years ago.

It's OK, just. The "River" was as dry as a chip and the campground at the bridge was small, lacking in grass and quite small. Across the track was a larger dirt area, not at all attractive.

Back from the bridge a few hundred yards you'll find some tracks that lead into some reasonably flat aeas in between the trees that are quite nice.

You'll need to take a lot of water unless the "river" is now flowing.

It's not a bad place, but there should be better.

We haven't been back.

Jim.
