So at 5am this morning the push me pull me arrived at the toll booth. 2 trucks pulling, 3 trucks pushing.

They are heading to the Darling Downs. They will get as far as Gatton tonight. Maximum speed? 13km per hour, amount of tyres on trailer? 232. How often are they stopping to air up tyres? every few km's. Entourage? 2 gofor trucks, 2 police vehicles, 2 pilots and another 6 vehicles which were carrying engineers for logistics in moving the bloody thing and change over drivers. My phone isn't the best for taking pics and it wasn't until half way through that I thought of taking them for ya's. So here ya go.. One of the regular things we have to liven up a shift when you are getting sleepy because we have to unbolt etoll equipment and shut the booths down.

I bet you didn't spy Mark driving through there either as he only drives a Moke sized truck LOL

Did you have fun counting the tyres??

Screw counting them! I asked how many tyres! once they got through the toll they aired up the tyres again. From driving through the toll, the logistics of some engineers dudes climbing on top of the thing to check height because he was a couple of mm short of knocking out the etoll sensor and metal brackets.. That would have been disastrous if that happened. The time frame of getting all vehicles through the toll booth and then pulling up to air up again and do a truck tyre check, They had already been one hour and where still there when I knocked off.

Mark may as well drive Barbie Dolls bus!!!

Kev,
maybe that should be "Blaine" Barbies new Australian love object.

Ken lost half his stuff in the messy divorce case (see Divorce Barbie).

Ken is history now, Blaine is the latest hunk in Barbies life.

Hey Willie.
The vehicles in front, we have to classify each vehicle one at a time (same as what I would have to do if you came through)you classify, the sensor picks up their etoll and once it registers it the boom automatically opens, (unlike everyone's thought that for etoll we open the boom). Then the truck is classified, his etoll goes off and the boom automatically opens, we then lock the boom to stay up until the whole push me is through, police vehicles are exempt from paying any toll fees, then boom is then lowered again and the normal vehicles following behind are classified one at a time and their etolls go off.
The toll fee for the truck with load? $4.50..
My plaza is cheaper than the gateway.
The tolls here are set as one rear axle single wheels, ie car is $1.90.
with trailer same cost.
Trucks that are one rear axle but duel tyres, different classification but same price as cars. BUT if that truck is towing a trailer that puts him to big truck class and it is $4.50
Big Trucks that are more than one rear axle and more than duel tyres, full fee of $4.50. Doesn't matter how many tyres or axles, is one set price.
And what was it? wish I could tell ya but I haven't got a bloooody clue!!!!!!
I am assuming something for the mines because that is what most of all the massive push me pull me stuff is (transformers, air conditioning units).

Looks like a new Gen Set for one of the new gas fired power stations that are being built 30 k west of Dalby.

There have been a few come up over the past few years.

The trip up the Toowoomba range would be more exciting.

And watching them pull the gen set out of the float is also interesting. The beams each side of the float get lifted away after they jack the gen set up a little to take the weight, then they tow front and back wheels away, leaving the Gen set sitting there.

Regards

Jo
Just what do you mean air up the tyres, I think what you seen was the suspension being raised again, the Platform Suspension can be lowered a few inches to clear bridges etc , they can lower just one side to level the it for road camber, and with the event of a blown tyre a jack is not needed, they lower the suspension, put a steel block in it and raise it thus lifting that set of wheels off the ground.

Good grief Miss Jo- I'm in awe of you. How on earth do you get a mobile phone pic onto the computer? I've only just learnt to use predictive text when messaging (thanks to the neverending efforts of my children to educate me). But even the kids don't know how to get a pic onto the computer. All this technology makes me feel old sometimes.doc.

Doc, the solution to that is to show them a record palyer and a record and ask them to male it work.
They text message constantly, sometimes across the room, but still have no idea why the bill is so high.
They might have been born into the geewhizbang generation but most haven't had to learn any common sense :)))

A normal business would give a refund...... and maybe even pay costs if they didn't provide the service they offer. Tollways just take your money even if your trip is worse than taking back roads. GRRRRRRRRimace.

I use to work for the company that hooks on near Gatton and pulls up the Range. I use to drag the kids out of bed usally about 2 in the morning to watch them come up. There is now 4 heavy tow trucks that I know of in Toowomba you can bet they will all be hooked on to this mother.

Just been to Brazil, tolls there are calculated per axle with wheels touching the ground, this'd have a hefty toll attached!!!

hehe..
yeh we also rate it per axles on ground. I should have wrote that in my follow up earlier on.. If you are a truck coming through an you have 2 rear axles, but have one lifted up then officially you only have one rear axle with duel wheels, there fore you only pay the Class 3 toll of $1.90. But drop that axle down and it will be $4.50

Thanks for the headsup yesterday Jo....we were just leaving to go out the door to drive up to Toowoomba for the weekend when i read your posting.

Prepared ourselves for the delays only to find the convoy pulled off on the side just on the warrego highway past the Logan exit at 11am.

Returned this arvo at 4pm to see the convoy had reached the pad on the Gatton Bypass, looking at an assault on the Range tomorrow morning i guess.
