Hi all
Thanks to all who helped with info on the front axle job, all done now and good except its wandering a bit on the road and i did check the toe in and it is about 0. My book does not actualy give a spec for the toe in. One bloke thought 2-3mm for split rim skinnys and 4-5mm for wider tyres but was kind of guessing.
Does any one know?
Kind Regards
GN

This info is from a Toyota repair manual.

Toe in Bias Tyre 4mm plus or minus 2mm
Toe in Radial Tyre 1mm plus or minus 2mm.

Hope this helps.

Hi Cruiser
so does that mean that 1mm toe out and dead straight is ok for radials? As well as up to 3mm toe in ok too. I had a 4 wheeler with just a bit of toe out one time and it was a total pig, gave it a touch of toe in and was fine. So i am guessing the fact i have no toe in that this is what it is a bit inclined to dart oround a bit on dirt tracks.

Hi GN
1mm + or - 2mm means up to 3mm toe in or 1mm toe out is within tolerance however it is always best to aim for the nominal value.

I am no steering and suspension expert but remember that quite a number of other factors could cause wandering, for example:
Loose wheel bearings, King pin play, Looseness of the springs and Looseness in the steering box.

Hope you get the problem sorted out and no need to appologise for shortening my screen name.

Thanks Cruiser 2091 i will give it a go a see if its better with 1mm toe in. It has new wheel bearings swivel hub bearings all with correct pre load settings, so am guessing its the toe in?

Cheers GN
