Went to the local shopping centre today, as I entered the carpark I thought maybe I had hit the warning bars as you enter, but wasn't sure as I had aircon on and tunes playing. I have measured the Paj and it comes in at 2.17mt and the car park is stated at 2.2mt. So I exited straight away and came in again, sure enough I gave them a little tap. Anyway parked on the bottom level and left with no dramas. Came home measured the car again, yep 2.17.

So if I took out an expensive exit sign or something, would I have a case to answer? They stated 2.2mt clearance and I am under that for sure. So I figure I could tell them to kiss my &%#$ and tell them to fix any damage to my car. Or maybe they may say you hit the warning bars so you should not have entered any further. MMMMMMM interesting

Cheers Stefan

They may have had Ken measure the height that's why you touched LOL

Hi stefan

Yeh the height warning generally aren't very accurate, but what is worse is when they are just not right.... the exhibition centre at darling harbour has a warning at street level stating max clearance of 1.9m. Knowing that my work van is 1.85 i went in.

all was good until i went down a few levels and half way down a ramp, there is a sign stating max clearance of 1.8. I had nowhere else to go so continued on, taking out a few dozen fluro lights along the way, ( conveniently located directly above the speed humps ). I've no idea why the 1.8 sign is not on the street level entrance. ridiculous

Hi there,
I have noticed the same thing as Donks where they have a height warning but the clowns forgot to change it when they put in speed humps. I have my UHF aerial on the front roobar and it is about an inch higher than my roof. Makes it easier to judge in all sorts of different places.

The clearance needed is a function of the vehicle's length [wheelbase]...the entry may not be flat so the 2.17m may be higher @ some entries.
Hope this makes sense.......have been caught like this as well: <(

The best bit is when you take out a sprinkler, then they all start!!!

Its no good for washing, the water is really foul, usually black, full of rust and oil from the inside of the pipes, makes a real mess of everything it touches ;-))

Not sure about that Pete,

Life is not an American adventure movie :))

If the sprinklers start to cascade, the engineer in charge is obviously not maintaining them to standard, (AS1851:2005). Agree about the quality of the water though.

Cheers
Alan

Having done it once and seen it done twice, quite a few went off in the immediate vicinity every time, not just the one that was hit.
Mine was a white work vehicle when I took one out and we never did get the stains off it, the ladder on the roof rack was ok though ;-))
Just had to sweep the glass off the roof from all the fluoro's!!

Come to think of it, that doesn't really surprise me - Oh well, it makes my job as Engineer of a mid-size facility sound fairly secure.

PS - I've even heard that some companies are so desperate for engineers they are promoting handymen/toolmen for the jobs - that's a big worry. (not for me - for the companies)

Yep.. got stuck with the paj under one.. I need minimum 2.17 as well. (that is of course if it is a level entrance and not ramped..) this ramped said 2.2mt. sweet.. I enter slowly (slight elevation then down and it was on a sharp right hand turn) and the next thing you hear... "crunch, crunch, and some taps hitting the roof"
Holy Crap!
I get out and there I am with the concrete from the top of the building being gouged out by the rack and dropping bits of concrete on the roof.
Crap!! Am I gonna ruin my rack and take the top layer of concrete with me, you could see it was full of cracks (was an old building) but obviously getting brittle in spots for the rack to have taken chunks of the concrete out. It was impossible to try and reverse back, by which stage cars were lining up behind me so I just had to keep going forward.. I would rather drive with a spider in the car than go through that again!!!

that is an idea! God I tell ya I was so not in the mood for it, I was leaving my tattooist after having just done another 5 hour sitting of ink on my back and I was feeling rather irritated before I even got into the car!

A few years ago the exit height warning bar (god knows why they put one ay the exit) at Waringah Mall shopping centre caused a couple of hundred bucks damage to my old Rangie with a roofrack on. After they measured my car and confimed that it was lower than their stated clearance height, they agreed to pay for the repairs.

There are a couple of outdoor car parks with height barriers at Morayfield Mall near Caboolture. Only problem is the car parks are outside with to roof or shelter so why put barriers there incl at the exit which is on the same level.

You can get to a lower level carpark from the the first floor on one of these carparks where there is a height restriction but they have restricted the whole car park to higher vehicles whereas one floor could have been used for higher ones (exit is the same floor as the entrance).

There are at least 2 carparks like this which means the Troopy has to go somewhere else.

The bars are there to stop camper vans from useing it for overnight.

All of the roadside stops in parts of Europe have them to stop the "Travelers" from camping

Almost got caught at Carindale in Brisbane.

2.0m height warning, Pajero is 1.97m, no roof rack.
(1.91m stock on this old model.)

Drove in and first ramp had a concrete beam over the spot where the ramp started, so the front wheels started rising before the car cleared the beam. Luckily I stopped and my better other half checked the clearance as we rose. Stopped half way, and the cars behind hadn't stopped to close.
Managed to get over the dividing island and do a u turn.
But it was close.

Have my radio aerial (am/fm) set to scrape at about 2.5m and my UHF aerial scrapes at about 2.2m. Gives me a bit of warning.

had this issue once myself --- they didn't include the height reduction from speed humps or when going up an incline or decline ( when changing levels ( steep level changes increase the height of the car)

ended up taking out a heap of fluro lights ... but the wind blew all the glass off the roof :)
