G'day all, Have the Kaymarcamp light on rear of of my 4by and the switch stopped working on last trip...dirt, corrugations????
The old man has one on his as well and the same thing has happened to his.
The lights are a great Idea and are very useful until you cant turn them on.
They are pretty well priced and you wouldn't expect the switch to fail in the elements that there made for.
Just thought It should be known.

Yeah, I also had mine switched up to the dash when I had it wired in, I then had to bypass the switch on the last trip.
Its only a little thing but It just annoys me when you pay good money on a reputable brand accessory and it lets you down.

Illegal putrol, illegal. Highly desirable though. I had a 2x55 watt work light as my reversing light on the camp box :-)))

putrol, as long as the clown behind isn't carrying a badge. We have an idiot neighbour P plater who likes to do that and follow, slowing so as not overtake but who got really sprung one night.

Add another one to the list.
Also note this weekend that the light has a number of holes in the lens. Had to pull it apart to wash it out.
Have located and wired a new switch, now to find a decent light.
Also noted that to have the metal work located firmly, the post is now hard to raise.
I'm a sparky by trade and I find the electrical work not even first year apprentice quality.
All in all a very poor piece of kit.

I inspected one the other day on a vehicle that was just back from a 40000km trip through Oz.
It was missing the light.
The switch was non existent
The mechanical stability was woeful
What remained of the wiring was also sus.
I might add that nothing else had failed on the vehicle during it's travels.
I couldn't believe the price of these pieces of junk !

I had a look at one recently and it looked so inferior, i ended up making my own and fitted it last weekend. I had a 4 inch, 100w sealed beam laying around from the seventies, an old chrome aircraft landing light as they used to call them.. a simple fixed bracket is all i made, bolted to the two top bolts of the Patrol spare wheel holder and wired to a switch on the dash.. Should finish the wiring this week and should do the job.. cost $6 for the steel, $12 for the relay, $4 toggle switch and $10 for the wire. Michael

Hi Michael

If I follow you correctly have you bolted this direcly to the spare wheel? Do you have to remove the light to remove the spare wheel?

I bet you wont need a warranty claim with yours - no made in korea crap with yours hey

cheers.........

PradOz, It bolts to the 2 top bolts that hold the wheel carrier to the door and sits between the door and the tyre. I made it out of 40mm x 6mm flat black steel so no need to make a spacer to space off the wheel from the door to make some room because its only 6 mm thick. Let me know if you want a pic and when i remove the spare wheel to finish the project in the next few days. Michael

I made it out of 40mm x 6mm flat black steel so no need to make a spacer to space off the wheel from the door to make some room because its only 6 mm thick. It is not adjustable up or down, it really is just for reversing in the bush or for setting up in the dark Let me know if you want a pic and when i remove the spare wheel to finish the project in the next few days. Hi Michael - a photo would be great if thats possible. my prado doesnt have very much room between the door and the spare tyre as the tyre profile doesnt leave me much of a gap at all. Your way may still work so will investigate the possibilities. I was thinking of fitting a spacer but could not think of an easy and inexpensive way to get the spacer.

I am gong to be down your way, Mossvale, next monday to take the son and his friend to a primary school basketball comp. Its a nice part of the world and am looking forward to the drive down (from Campbelltown)

Thanks Mick

I have about 15 mm gap also so the flat steel was the obvious choice, email me so i can get your email address.. mpdempster@optusnet.com.au Michael

Mine broke too on a trip to the cape.

I pulled it apart and serviced it, but it failed again soon after.

Kaymer sent me a new one for $18!
