Good evening, I have an American BBQ "Freedom Grill FG-50" (www.freedomgrill.com) It currently runs off disposable Propane Canister, however I would like to convert it to be used with an LPGAS cylinder.
Would anyone know if a standard Regulator and hose would do this or would I need something else? It already has a regulator attached to the bbq for the canister and I am not sure if I would remove this or keep it on to convert it.
Does anyone have any suggestions as I don't really know a lot about them?
Many thanks

This is what is written on the accessories page of thier website

42" Stainless Steel Hose Adapter for FG-50
This propane hose adapter lets you use standard 20 lb. LP Cylinders with the Freedom Grill FG-50 for longer lasting grilling fun.

Trouble is I'm not really sure what the '42" Stainless Steel Hose Adapter' is, if it is a standard fitting that we use in Australia.

Guy jumps out of a perfectly good aeroplane, wearing a parachute, and pulls the rip chord, only to have the chute foul and refuse to open.

Grabs his knife and cuts away the useless chute and then pulls the emergency 2nd rip chord.

2nd emergency shute deploys and also fouls, now he's in heap big trouble pale face.

So - while hurtling towards the ground he spots a black shape rising up towards him at similar speed to his descent - a trail of smoke following - not dissimilar to a rocket launch.

As this dark shape gets closer - he recognises it's form as being human - and again as it gets even closer - he realises it is a guy, whos shirt appears to be somewhat on fire.

As they prepare to cross paths - he takes his chance and shouts out at the top of his lungs..

"Hey Mate - you know anything about parachutes?"

Guy answers back...

"No - Nuthing at all - you know anything bout gas BBQ's?

There endeth the lesson! ;o)

Cheers

God almighty! If you listened to half the people on this site and their prophecies of doom you wouldn't even cross the road without someone holding your hand!

In regard to the hose (website) I suggest you contact the manufacturers and ask them for the thread type, hand and size of the gas bottle end connector and either Google or ask again here the specs. for Australian gas bottles then you'll know if you need an adaptor or not.

Agree.

Any decent gas supplier (Supa Gas do them) can make you up a lead with the appropriate fitting on either end.
God almighty! If you listened to half the people on this site and their prophecies of doom you wouldn't even cross the road without someone holding your hand!
And you wouldn't willingly jump out of a perfectly good aeroplane or mess with gas BBQ's!

Both might guarantee you a longer life assuming you don't get hit my a MTT Bus crossing the road!

My bro in Laws a eggspurt on GAS - he converted his BBQ as well - wouldn't get hot eough so he removed the regulator and just used the valve on top of the bottle to regulate the flwo - as well as the taps on the front of BBQ.

Worked a treat for many years, then one of his dodgey joints failed, the gas somehow got alight downa t the bottle and was setting flame to his patio roof - the back of the house etc.

He did what he had too - and put his hand into the flames to close the valve, got 3rd degree burns in the orocess but saved the house - then couldn't work for many week s- lost income and almostlostthe house thru not being able to pay the mortgage etc etc

You guys mess with your gas - I'll stick to buying the right appliance for the purpose and refrain from jumping outta planes, and take my chances crossing the road! ;o)

Cheers

>My bro in Laws a eggspurt on GAS

No he isn't.

If your description is correct and complete then your brother in law is an idiot and it's impossible to protect such people from themselves.

The rest of us, who have half a brain, manage to perform these simple tasks without injuring ourselves and we don't need nursemaids telling us what to do or not to do.

I've been having nightmares lately.

My shadow keeps attacking me.

I'm beginning to worry that this will actually happen to me.

I wonder if you can use the Coleman adapter lead for yours, as the FG50 doesnt look much different to the "roadtrip grill", especially using similiar 1lb propane bottles......this one might work ===>

The Coleman roadtrip gril, and my hotwater-on-demand, uses this simple adapter lead to change from propane bottles to LPG bottles, so i assume that yours should be similiar. Someone wiser might be able to assist here with the answer.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Andrew, I've been wondering the same thing about the coleman too. I might shoot an email across to them and see what they say. Its a bit hard without actually seeing it I know, and I cant explain the fittings very well either because I don't what the right names are and I would hate to describe it incorrectly.

I don't think this is going to be as straight forward as I had hoped, I might actually have to take the bbq around to some places for them to see it........

Now that i see the Freedom Grill adapter, they do look very much similiar, with the Freedom Grill one having the added protection of Stainless Steel braided line.

Yeah your right, it does......

It's a great concept. I have mine hitched on to my caravan. Saves storing and mess. The only fault I have to say with it though, is before I bought it, I was told it was 20,000BTU's now I find out it it only 12,000.

Never mind......
