Has anyone any comments about Memory-map software, specifically its effectiveness and usability as a standalone navigation and mapping tool ? Certainly the range of maps in this format is becoming quite impressive.

Nic,
This is getting a bit old but may be useful.
Memmap/Oziexplorer
Both products have probably been improved somewhat since this was done.

Thanks Al,
It's still a very useful comparison, and MM seems like it's still a comparable and useful product.
Cheers,
Nic

The review of OziCE is
well out of date, with the latest version offering a huge amount of flexability in what is displayed.

Have been playing with Memory-Map on the PC for an hour or so and find it like OziExplorer LITE light. I like low fat milk but with this you pay extra for everything, US$49.95 here, or US$125 there, to get to 'Professional". No ability to import maps for the base version apart from a scan, so you use what you have been provided with.

Hi John,
If you have a licensed version of Memory-Map you can download the latest version (5.2.7) as an upgrade for free. This will allow imports of GPS plots and maps, but the formats of these are still quite limited in comparison with OziExplorer.

Nic, I have been using OziExplorer software exclusively until now but have been doing some homework as Memory-Map is the native Topo software in the new VMS in-dash systems recently released.
VMS Homepage
VMS indash
I am not sure yet if I like that side as the maps tend to be proptietary in the CE version. I don't know much yet on the PC version but should know more in a week. It would concern me if I couldn't easily transfer files from one computer to another easily. Certainly the OziExplorer desktop version is very flexible in the maps it can use.

You can load OziExplorer into the VMS with a license, which is about the same price as an upgrade to the next level of Memory-Map. Ozi seems to take lots more map formats in comparison.
