MORE than 10,000 homes have lost power in southeast Queensland as a severe thunderstorm passes through the region.
Electricity supplier Energex confirmed homes from the city's bayside to the Lockyer valley had experienced power cuts from 5.30pm (AEST).
The worst affected area is the city's northside, where more than 4000 homes are without power.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for large hailstones and wind gusts of up 100km an hour in
Brisbane, Moreton Bay and
Somerset.
A State Emergency Service spokesman said all volunteer crews in the
Brisbane area were on stand-by, but so far had only received one call for assistance at Karana Downs, west of the city.
However, he said more reports of damage were likely as people arrived home from work.
