We've just brought a Hilux, and during the test drive (after Hubby was trying out the 4wd) some noise came from the front - mostly when he used the clutch. They fixed it before we brought it, I think it was just the clutch cable needing grease or something to that effect.
Sorry I don't have any idea - I thought this "might" help.

Got the same car, except mine's an 2000 model extra cab and I've had it since 2001. Never had and problems, except for a burnt valve while doing a 12000km drive from Perth to Darwin and return in 1 month. I put this down to the valve clearances not being done by the mechanic. I had the head rebuilt by Toyota, with hardened valve seats and now runs great on LPG and its done 180,000km.

Your problem could be caused by harmonics. This is when something will vibrate at its natural frequency due to the same frequency been put out by something else. Hence if could be something has come loose and then vibrates when the engine's in the right rev range. I was thinking it could be your exhaust or a loose nut somewhere, but that's just a guess.

Have looked at exhaust all seems fime. What leads me to a cable is that it is right in front of my feet and it also comes from the gearbox area. I also have removed heat gards in the area and gone for a drive and it still dose it.

Trial and error I'm afraid... Mechanics do the same
