Willem
I wandered in to REPCO
Whyalla today looking for a better priced Oil filter for the Xtrail and some oil
Oil filter $11. (compared to Supercheap $18)
Oil= REPCO oil (supplied by
Mobil they tell me) 5 litres =$26
Another REPCO oil (supplied by
Mobil) 6 litres =$19
So I take the cheaper version to the counter. Salesperson adds it up and says, "That'll be $23, Sir"
"How come?"
"
Well as you are buying two REPCO products there is a further discount.
So instead of paying $26.00 for 5 litres of oil I am now paying $12.00 for 6 litres of oil!
I like that place!!!
As the Californians say "Go figure"
Cheers

LOL Axle
But the Xtrail ain't no Rolls Royce. Its just a toy car with a lot of electrics I don't even want to look at. Oils is Oils and as long as there are no banana skins in the mix, we should be OK :-)
Cheers

Willem,
Repco oils are
Mobil products, either directly or blends of
Mobil. i use the repco semi synthetic in the cooks car as it is
mobil'S' and it can be up to $6 per 5l pack cheaper than the
mobil pack. as i have to buy 2 packs (the adventra has a 7.5ltr sump cap) it saves me money but i use genuine filters from holden as they are 1/2 the price of aftermarket ones. just watch the oil filters from there( dont know what brand you bought) but i was not happy with the oil pressure while using the repco filters. cheers Paul

I assumed when repco started bringing out their own branded filters, they were just re-badged royco. But i was absolutely shocked to hear the price of royco filters these days! They always used to be good filters at really good prices....
For my 80 series petrol, i still went with royco for oil and fuel filters, but saved about $30 on the air filter by going with a repco.
Oil though, i always recommend Penrite. Not too expensive and ive been under the impression for years they are great oils.
For the sake of paying the extra equivalent of a case of beer a year, i'm happy knowing penrite oils and royco filters are under the bonnet. I hear too many people running rubbish oil, changing oil filter every second oil change and never warming their car up even for 30seconds, and then watch them drive off with a plume of blue smoke...

stick to the name brands at all times ,with todays hightech engines you may risk damage ,and if under warranty if there,s a problem an oil sample will be taken and if its not right you can kiss your warranty goodbye .
take care mechpete

G'day Willem
Very cheap but be aware that the oill used in X
Trails and Pulsars needs to be 7.5w40. I'm not sure what grade the oil is you bought, and as you say it is not a rolls royce, but these engines have a habbit of the oil "sludging up " which blocks the galleries. This means that no oil gets to the top end... ( camshafts ). I've seen these engines snap cams
well under 100,000ks from wrong oil used....No warranty for that

You are right to a degree...lol. What was I thinking? Nevermind I can put the oil to good use somewhere else(no, not in the diesel)
Last service at 85,000km Nissan put Magnatec 10W30 in but I used 10W40 the service before (I do the inbetween oil changes). Shall be more careful in the future. Little car is still purring along at 95,000km.
Cheers

Gday Willem,
I service two Xtrails.
Recommended oil is 5W30 - we use Castrol EDge 5W30 after I bought a heap of it on special at SuperCheap for $29.95 for 5 litres. Before that I was using Nissan Special Blend 7.5W30 which cost me $30 for 5 litres from Nissan. Thicker oil stuffs the motors.
I use genuine Nissan Filters - either $18 from the dealer or I bought a bunch off Blackburn Nissan in Vic off Ebay for $11 each delivered.
Enjoy your break!

The repco oil is full
Mobil Oil.
Pretty good stuff too, they have all of the appropriate classifications.
adding a repco air filter would have been in the deal too.(He should have upsold you!!) just a bit extra (but NOT retail price)
I do it all of the time for all my cars
