Hello all. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with a Firecracker HF antenna from Bushcomm. Was looking for one as an emergency antenna for the 4WD and primary antenna on the motorbike. I realise that earthing will be an issue on the bike and was thinking of running an earth wire direct from the antenna to ground via steel spike. Unit in question is a Q-Mac HF90.
Cheers
Curly.

G'day Curly001
I carry a Bushcom "Fire cracker " antenna as an emergency unit should the HF's auto tune antenna fail, I've used the "Fire cracker" on two occassions just to see how it works, via VKS 737.
On both occassions the results were very good, in signal strength and readability, although it's a fiddly bugger to set up correctly, so one would need to be thinking clearly in an emergency use situation.

G'Day Joe F.
Thanks for the reply. Good to hear that the Firecracker works
well. Think that I'll get one not so much for use in the case of an emergency as I already carry an EPIRB and Satphone if the brown stuff hits the atmospheric oscillator but more for a backup if the autotune should go belly up and as a primary antenna on the bike and quad when I go hunting. (Versatile little units those Q-Macs!!)
Cheers
Curly.
