Thanks

I would recommend Battery World, Wantirna. Talk to Chris the owner.

Not all Batt World stores are the same. They are franchised and the deal and advice you get depoends on the franchisee. Chris is a top bloke.

No affiliation, just a satisfied customer, as have been all those I have recommended him to.

Jim.

You get different grades of AGM batts, and most made in China, I recently researched this and found that battery world not cheap and keeps middle of road quality, I ended up getting a USA military spec concorde 104 A/hr for $425 from a dedicated solar elec supllier in Perth, apparently (I could have been misled) this batt has twice life span of a normal AGM.
Who knows what is put in the Chinese batteries?

I've got two; Lifeline (made by Concorde in USA) and a REMCO (Chinese). Both 100 amp.

Lifeline is 4 years old and has had to have an "equalising" charge to get it back to full capacity once, and it is due again as it will only hold 12.4 volts.

The REMCO is 3 years old, holds 12.8 all the time and has never given me a days trouble.

REMCO was about $100 cheaper and buggers the "you get what you pay for" theory.

Cheers,

Jim.

How do you assess the quality of a battery?

I suppose it comes down to pricing, recommendations and weight.

It seems no one knows?

Having been intimately involved in this task for the past 18 months let me tell you... it is not simple and, unless the poster provides sound and testable evidence of the good, or bad, quality of any particular make of lead acid battery I suggest you treat their advice with extreme caution.

If you have Bias Boating and Whitworths stores down there, they both recently had 100AH AGMs at a reasonable price. Around $330 from memory.
I've been running Chinese made AGMs for 4 years. Currently have 4 x Fullriver 120 AH, 1 x Remco 90 AH and 1 x IEB 100 AH. All giving great service, including the original two, which are now 4 years old. In terms of value for money, it is hard to go past them.

No Bias store in Melbourne, but Whitworths have a store and have 100AH Remco AGM for $339.

Just up the road from Whitworths there is another small chandelery ( I think it is called 'boat bits'), they often are very competitive because their proximity to whitworths - worth a try.

330 x 180 x 220 high.
Hight may be a touch less - it is difficult to get in and get an accurate measurement where I have them installed. If less, it will be only a couple of mm at most.

I had 2 in my camper. Took one out and kept it when I sold the camper. It is now in the back of the ute.

Thanks for that Norm, the length is my main restriction, 330 fits ok with a bit to spare.

The battery worlds I went to did'nt have the USA brands such as Concorde, and did not have any AGM batteries that I was interested in buying, I remember thinking, OK nothing here for me, and left.

This is only my point of view, to be honest I know very little about batteries and had to be guided by the info I could find on the net or glean from others, but I tried to buy something that would last as they are expensive regardless of where they are made.

BTW I now have to buy abattery for another application, I am putting together a plate aluminium boat, and need a starting/deep cycle battery, so the hunt starts again.

I use an AGM for that purpose as well. Bought one of my AGMs (100AH) to run the trolling motor on the boat. I'm upgrading to a 4 stroke with electric start. According to the importer, the battery is also rated at 850 CCA, more than twice as much as I need to start the outboard.

Being a plate boat , I suspect the CCA you will need for your motor is a bit more than mine, but same concept. I have the convenience of a recoil rope start as well as electric, so one battery is OK for me.

I got two Supercharge 90 A/H AGM's from Supercharge Batteries 18 months back for $180 each (inc GST) This was between between $40 - $120 cheaper than I'd found elsewhere. Have both in the vehicle. They are at 545 Somerville Rd, Sunshine Vic. Tel 03 93101995.

Batteries performing well.

Cheers

When i wanted one ABR weren't stocking batteries so i went to the link they provided ie: http://linux.supercharge.com.au/ & found my local stockist in Melb (R&E Autos in Heidelberg for me). Got an Amptech AT121200-SC (120Ah AGM) for $325 (which i believe is a rebadged Dahua FM12-120).

Some measurements etc provided on the Supercharge website & also at www.dahua-battery.com

fyi .. I notice that it is very hard to find anything actually saying "AGM" on these websites & they generally only refer to "deep cycle" ..... mmmmmmmmmm

Picked up a 110 A/H AGM today from battery guru for $310.00, happy as they matched the price of a 100 A/H, but i paid a little extra for the 10 amps. They also gave me a 30% discount card for my next purchase.
