I have Bigpong Wireless on the $49.95 1G per month plan.

Heading off to NZ next week so I just activated Global Roaming on the Bigpond account. Then I checked the likely costs.

$15 per megabyte !!!!!!!!! Plus 50c connection cost !!!!!

Hooley dooley - I think the laptop will stay at home.

deserter,

Just leave the lappy at home mate.

After all, you are on holidays ( I am assuming anyway)

If you really need to check email or banking then most librarys have internet access and even if you use an internet booth the cost is still cheaper than those costs.

Enjoy the trip,

Cheers,

Cruiser

Hi Deserter,
Unbelievable.
Try Whirlpool, register with them and post/ask in the forums about possible plans that are avaliable to you.

$15 per megabyte, Crikey.

And Mark we get a healthy 12GB per month in peak & 48GB off Peak between 12 midnight and 12 noon.
I know this isn't wireless which I know cost a bit more, but at those prices of $15 per MB is just wrong.
If I wre travelling I think I would be trying to use Libaraies and places like that to connect through. I don't know what internet cafes charge per unit or time.
But you would think there would a better plan out there somewhere.

Mark, I don't think deserter's wirless connect would reach all the way back across the ditch, otherwise I would offer to out source mine to them. Just like I do to you. ;-))

Ta Jon. Be interesting to see. Won't worry me too much to leave it at home. It was mainly to download pics and browse tourist information as we self-drove. Its easy enough to get more camera memory and to visit tourist info centres.

Doesn't seem to be a great deal of info out there.
I've had one reply and they seem to think it could be worth looking at Voda's roaming rate in NZ because it would have to be lower
I've found this ISP WIZwireless

You have answered your own question - DO NOT ever connect outside Australia.

You will find at least half the motels and hotels have broadband (wireless or cable) , some free, some at a cost of usually $10 to $15 per night. Also some camp grounds now supply Broadband - otherwise Internet Cafe's.

I travel to NZ a lot and this next trip, I will have a Vodafone Vodem which is a USB Broadband modem, expensive and slow outside the cities but it works. Buy at a Vodafone shop in NZ

Have a good trip

DO NOT USE VODAFONE ROAMING
In fact I will never use vodafone again
$10 a Kb
First time I used roaming in Aus $800.00
Next trip thought I won't get caught like that twice. used only 3 times to check emails ,this web site, downloaded nothing.
The $1200.00 bill almost beat me home. Made some enquiries, as you do, the dates were the same but I dispute the data used.
ONE VODAFONE CONTRACT NOW CANCELLED
For the same amount of use at a shire library $3 to $5 an hour.
