Hi Guys,
Stumbled across ur great site and thought u might be able to help. I am planning a trip around oz and have afew questions. I will be mainly travelling by myself plus afew sufboards, a kayak, fishing gear and various other junk.I have about $20,000 to spend on a rig and have decided a troopcarrier would be a good rig for my purposes.I have also thought it might be better to get one already set up 4 travelling,ie,bed, fridge, etc
My questions are,
*Where would i look to find one already set up?or am i better off decking it out myself?
*Is it better to sleep in your car or
camp?
*I have seen afew hightop models for sale but are these suitable if u have boards, kayak and fishing gear?
*I would like a turbo diesel but if it isnt possible are the standard models ok?
Any info would be much appreciated,
Cheers, Oldsalty

We've set up a few with a floor, with drawers underneath, to provide a bed.
With the size of a Troopy, you don't need to set up a tent.
Set it up right and you'll have a wonderful trip.
Jim.

I bought
mine from
East Coast Commercials it was an ex Telstra 1994 unit, had 106,000 Ks, winch, dual battery, it now has 726,000+ ,
Sleep in the back , no snakes there, I made a bed in the back, cut the center section of the cargo barrier out for access from the front cabin, it has an
80Ltr water tank flat bottom down, plus a 180Ltr diesel
tank under the bed ,
.

Hi Oldsalty,
*Where would i look to find one already set up?or am i better off decking it out myself?
There are arguments for and against on each of these plans. My recomendation is whichever is the most cost effective for you. If you find a fully decked out P O Sheite troopy and a really good nick empty one, my argument would be fit out the empty one.
*Is it better to sleep in your car or
camp?
Yep, all of the above. Depends on where you are and what you aim to achieve. In a tropical monsoon the back of the wagon is very comfortable.
*I have seen afew hightop models for sale but are these suitable if u have boards, kayak and fishing gear?
The standard troopy roof line is certainly easier to attach roof racks than a high top camper. I'd go the standard roof line if carrying that sort of kit.
*I would like a turbo diesel but if it isnt possible are the standard models ok?
All troopy's are darn fine. The factory turbo diesels go like sheite off a shovel. The normally aspirated diesels aren't usually the first to arrive but they always arrive.
All you need to remember is troopy's don't have a sunroof, don't do kids soccer and aren't available in convertible for very specific reasons.
Hope that helps,
Geoff

Much better to buy one already fitted with extra battery and inverter and extra tanks and spotlights and roof racks and Sunrasias and good seats and rear drawers and so on because you'll pay brand new price to fit these rather than around a third or less inclusive in the 2nd hand price.
$20,000 will get you one fully fitted out but with a fair few K's on it.
Then you just have to choose one which has been serviced
well. They last forever if they get looked after
well.
