Oziexplorer

Ok all you Ozi users. I have just setup Natmap 2008 file in Oziexplorer on PC, everything works fine even on moving map.

I then went to convert it into a ozf2 file for my PDA and everytime I do this it is out by positioning pointer about 1.5klm's south of true position when using moving map.

Any ideas how to fix, I have tried various percentage compressions all the same.

Hey Blaze,

I realise that you asked in the Oziexplorer-L forum, so it seems not a simple solution without a little bit more information.

Can you post the data contained in one of those incorrectly calibrated map tiles, either as a link to an online ".map" file, or just as the text contained in the .map file. That way something may stand out as a likely culprit.

Should look something like this:

Blaze

Have you also tried to just run the native ecw files in your PDA. Some PDA's will run these files without any issues. I know that my ASUS does this and it makes like so much easier.

Just a thought that may or may not work for you also.

Cheers

Hi Richard,

That has been suggested on another forum that he initially asked, however i believe that Blaze wants to solve this problem i guess.

As per Richard's reply, ARM processor PDAs will run ECW files ( slowly ). Otherwise, try importing the ECW files into Oziexplorer and create new .map files if the supplied files are suspect.

One other thing I neglected to say was once the file is converted if I then take that back to laptop, even though the original file was spot on, the converted one has the same problem on the PC as it does on a PDA

After some checking of these (and old) map files, it looks like the wrong .map file is being used on your PDA.

After looking at your message on the Oziexplorer-L forum, and seeing that you also have Natmap 2005 (premium?) installed, i would say that you are using the two programs in the same directory (or nearby) which is conflicting with your .map files.

The old and new Natmap mosaics have the same name (250k.ecw), similiar sizing, the same calibration positions (1000, 1000), however are slightly different in their latitude referencing, hence the mainly southerly difference in your position display.

It is suggested to remove Natmap 2005 from both your computer and PDA, and delete any .map files from both systems that are referencing 2005 calibration positions.......best to remove all of these .map files and use the ones from http://www.oziexplorer3.com/xtras/natmap_digital_maps_2008_mapfiles_setup_c.exe (if installing on hard-drive).

I can't see a need for running Natmap 2005 if you have Natmap 2008 now anyway. :-)

That should fix your problem.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the feedback, the 2005 isn't anywhere near the PDA as I installed to a new SD Card, but I have taken your advice onboard. I totally agree 2005 isnt needed if 2008 works, one of the etempts we did yesterday was to load a Brand new Laptop running XP with Natmap 2008 and OZI This machine worked fine with the ecw file but when I removed the ecw file plus .map file and replaced with the converted one, same problem. I now have redone see below: and keeping fingers crossed.

I decided to download Img2Ozf Setup to another PC at work, and just done a minimal compression last night using this system, wouldn't you believe it the map runs fine! I will do compression to about 1gig tonight and try again and will let you know how I go

I think you'll find that the 2005 Natmaps have affected either your conversion in Img2Ozf or there is rogue .map files floating in your PDA etc.

A good idea might be to change your 2008 mosaic file to another name before converting eg 250k_2008.ecw . This will help in the future with finding out which .map file is which. Make sure you change the .map file to reflect this change...there are numerous ways to do this, one being edit the appropriate lines in the .map file.

I believe that we are the right solution so some basic fiddling now and everything should be fine. Having both 2005 and 2008 version and messing up .map files seems to be the problem.

I responded on the other forum just to keep it flowing :-)
